Yash Dayal reveals how he bounced back after Rinku Singh hit him for five sixes in IPL 2023
Yash Dayal also shared how he fell ill following the trolling he received on social media.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) speedster Yash Dayal opened up about his painful journey when he was smashed for five consecutive sixes by Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition.
The left-arm pacer Dayal has made a good start in the 17th season of the IPL, with brilliant spells against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in RCB’s first two matches.
In the first match against five-time champions CSK, Dayal bowled three overs and registered 1/28. He picked up a wicket of Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 15 runs.
Yash’s spell of 1/23 of the four overs played a crucial role in RCB restricting PBKS to 176-6 in the first innings. Dayal just gave away 10 runs in his first three overs in the powerplay against Punjab at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 25. When he returned to bowl the 17th over of the PBKS innings, the left-arm fast bowler claimed the wicket of in-form batter Sam Curran with a sharp bouncer.
‘I was told not to go on social media:’ Yash Dayal after conceding five sixes against Rinku Singh in IPL 2023
The 26-year-old pacer was acquired by RCB at the IPL 2024 mini-auction for a price of Rs 5 crore. He had a decent run in the 2023 edition with the Gujarat Titans (GT).
However, in a clash against two-time champions KKR at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the IPL 2023, Dayal had a horrific day when he was smashed for five consecutive sixes by Rinku Singh. Dayal, who was in charge of the bowling at that time couldn’t successfully defend 29 runs in the last over.
After the match against PBKS, in an interaction with his RCB teammate Mohammed Siraj, Dayal revealed the painful IPL 2023. The former GT bowler said that how he coped from that onslaught, which led to him missing subsequent matches for the franchise before he returned in Gujarat’s final league game in 2023 season.
“To be honest, the problem began when the match was over and I left the ground. I was told not to go on social media, but I ended up checking it. Then I talked to my family. I saw what people think about what background I come from and playing cricket at this level,” Dayal said.
I fell ill after 2-3 days of that incident , then I recovered from it. It is not like I am the first person to go through all of this, and I will not be the last as well. So, I focused on the process, tried to play as many matches as possible, and get into a zone where I can tackle such situations,” he added.
Dayak will be next seen in action during RCB’s contest against the KKR at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, March 29.
