Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 116 runs in India’s comfortable run chase in the third ODI.

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showed his mental fortitude in third ODI of the three-match series against South Africa at Visakhapatnam’s Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium to complete the run chase unbeaten and seal the series in favour of the hosts. With his 116-run knock, the left-hander became only sixth Indian cricketer to achieve a massive feat.

Talking about the game, India won the toss and opted to field first. The bowlers put in the hard yards to restrict South Africa for a low total of 270 runs, which proved to be a walk in the park for the Indian batting unit. India secured the series with a nine-wicket win in Visakhapatnam.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s grind pays off

Yashasvi Jaiswal had to face a tough phase in the power play as he missed a lot of deliveries trying to unleash his shots. But, what worked in his favour was his perseverance. The 23-year-old put a value on his wicket and stayed on the crease.

His grind paid off in the end as he walked off unbeaten with Virat Kohli after confirming another ODI series win for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s expressive celebration was a reflection of the hard work that he had to put in for his maiden ODI century.

Jaiswal joins an elite list

With his century in the game, Yashasvi Jaiswal is now in the company of Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill as he becomes the sixth Indian cricketer to register a century in all three formats of the game. With Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma’s pair producing heaps of runs, Jaiswal had to wait for his opportunity.

The youngster struggled in the first two ODIs, but did not bow down in the third. He was determined to make the most of this opportunity at the top of the batting order in the third ODI. With this century, Yashasvi Jaiswal has established himself as a reliable option to fall back to if any of the two established openers are unavailable.
