Yograj Singh criticised former selector Mohinder Amarnath for mishandling the careers of players.
Former Indian Cricket Team cricketer Yograj Singh lashed out at the ex-selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for destroying the careers of seven players, including Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and others. He pointed out how MS Dhoni wasn’t sacked as the captain even after losing five series.
The Indian Cricket Team, with the core group of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and others, lifted the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. However, after that they underwent a transition and things didn’t go the way they would’ve wanted.
India suffered a 0-4 thrashing in the away test series against Australia and England. These losses saw many stalwarts getting dropped from the team. Even the selectors decided that they would sack MS Dhoni as the captain, and the development was confirmed by Mohinder Amarnath, who was one of the key figures of the selection committee then.
You just destroyed the team after the 2011 World Cup – Yograj Singh
While talking about that, Yograj Singh, who is the father of former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, claimed that the BCCI put the careers of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid in the gutter. He added that they destroyed the side after 2011.
“You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason. Boys like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. You just made them go after 2011,” Yograj said, speaking to InsideSport.
“You just destroyed the team after the 2011 World Cup. The careers of 7 players were put into the gutter. That is why were struggling.”
Yograj Singh also criticised Mohinder Amarnath for mishandling the careers of players. He added:
“We lost five series when MS Dhoni was the captain and he was told he would be replaced by Mohinder Amarnath, but that’s not the way to do it.”
After India lost a series to England and Australia, MS Dhoni was all set to get sacked. But he was retained by then-BCCI President N. Srinivasan. The keeper-batter then went on to retire from the format in 2014.
