Indian star batter Virat Kohli is on a short break after his side won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. The veteran cricketer will soon join the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting from August 2.
Kohli so far has played in many countries and is the biggest global icon of the game right now. However, he has never visited Pakistan to play senior men’s international cricket since his India debut in 2008. Although Kohli did visit Pakistan as an Under-19 cricketer in 2006.
With the T20 World Cup concluded, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been one of the hot topics in the cricket world. All eyes are on BCCI and the Indian government whether they will allow the Men in Blue to play the upcoming ICC tournament in Pakistan.
Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) submitted the first draft for the Champions Trophy 2025 to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The proposed draft stated that the high-voltage Indo-Pak match would take place on March 1 in Lahore.
Since PCB submitted its first draft schedule to ICC, many media reports in India stated that a hybrid model will take place and some matches will be played in the UAE or Sri Lanka.
He should come to Pakistan: Younis Khan’s emotional request to Kohli
Both India and Pakistan haven’t played any bilateral cricket since 2012-13. The arch-rivals have met only in ICC tournaments and Asia Cups. This is because of the political tensions between the two countries and cross-border terrorism from Pakistan.
Pakistan were also the host nation of the Asia Cup 2023, but BCCI refused to send the Indian side. Hence, a hybrid model was adapted with India’s matches being played in Sri Lanka, including the final.
Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan expressed his desire and said that he wants Indian batter Virat Kohli to come to Pakistan and play the Champions Trophy 2025.
Younis added that Kohli has only one thing left in his cricket career, which is to come to Pakistan and score runs in India’s neighboring country.
“Virat Kohli should come to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. It’s our wish too. I think the only thing left for him is to come to Pakistan and score runs in Pakistan,” Younis Khan told News24.
