Yuvraj Singh, former India cricketer and mentor of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, congratulated the left-handed opener after his maiden T20I century, which came in India’s recent win over Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday.
Abhishek Sharma had got out on a four-ball duck on his India debut in the first T20I against Zimbabwe on Saturday. However, he turned his ominous start around and smashed a blistering century in the second match a day after.
After Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat, Abhishek Sharma started slowly, reaching his 50 in 33 balls. But he then exploded and hammered sixes and fours repeatedly as he reached his maiden ton in only 46 balls. He got out the next ball but had hit seven fours and eight massive sixes in his 47-ball stay at the crease.
Thanks to his ton, and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 77*, coupled with Rinku Singh’s amazing finishing of 48* in 22 balls, India posted a huge total of 234/2 in 20 overs.
In response, Zimbabwe batters had no answer despite a good start, as Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan picked three wickets apiece and Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets. Zimbabwe only made 134 with Wessly Madhevere’s 43 being the highest score.

Following the game, BCCI released footage of Abhishek speaking with Yuvraj via video call. The former all-rounder, who has worked with Abhishek as his mentor, said that he was proud of the youngster and feels he will continue to produce hundreds. While talking about the special moment, Abhishek thanked Yuvraj for the efforts that he put in on and off the field to help him develop as a player.
“That was, again, a very special moment. I talked to him yesterday. I don’t know why, but he was very happy when I got out on zero. He was like, that’s a good start. But I think he must be very proud today as well. Just like my family. So, I’m really happy.
It is all because of him as well. The hard work he has put on me. Two, three years he’s been working really hard on me and everything. I wouldn’t say just on my cricket, even off the field as well. So, it’s a big moment,” Abhishek said.
On the other hand, Yuvraj Singh shared a video on his social media platforms and the video contained a compilation of Abhishek Sharma’s hard work in the gym and with the bat in practice. He praised Abhishek on his achievement and wished more centuries would come off his bat in the future.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day! Congratulations @IamAbhiSharma4 on the journey to your first International 100! Many more to come,” Yuvraj Singh posted on X.
