ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Yuvraj Singh not satisfied with Shreyas Iyer at No. 4 for India, wants this batsman to take the spot

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is not satisfied with Shreyas Iyer's batting position.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was not happy with Shreyas Iyer’s performance in the 5th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and Australia, which was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8, 2023. After winning the toss, Pat Cummins of Australia decided to bat first. Three pacers and one specialist spinner, Adam Zampa, were picked by Australia.

After Jasprit Bumrah bowled Mitchell Marsh for a duck, Steve Smith (41) and David Warner (41) scored 69 runs for the second wicket.

Warner was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav after falling to him and being caught. The true standout for India, though, was Ravindra Jadeja, who quickly dumped Smith (46), Marnus Labuschagne (27), and Alex Carey (0). His final statistics in his 10 overs were 3/28. Australia was 165/8 at one stage in 43 overs. But Mitchell Starc’s 28 managed to take Australia to a final score of 199 runs.

India had the worst start possible to them as Mitchell Starc removed Ishan Kishan for a golden duck, and then Josh Hazlewood took care of Rohit Sharma, who also went for a duck, and Shreyas Iyer for a duck as well.

But then Virat Kohli and KL Rahul came together and added 165 runs for the third wicket in 35 overs. They negated the pacers well and played out Adam Zampa. Kohli made a fantastic 85 with six fours before getting out to Hazlewood.

KL Rahul at the other end made 97* with 8 fours and 2 sixes and took India to the win by 6 wickets in the 42nd over.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh was not happy with the shot Shreyas Iyer played when India were at 2/2. Shreyas Iyer tried to pull a short ball from off to the leg side and hit it straight to the mid-on fielder.

Yuvraj posted: “No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure !! Need better thinking from @ShreyasIyer15 when team is trying to rebuild their innings ! Still don’t understand why @klrahul  is not batting at no 4 ! After scoring a 100 against Pakistan ! Dropping @imVkohli  might cost australia big time , don’t drop the king cause he can take the game away 😉 .  Game on !! #IndiaVsAus #WorldCup2023”

India will now face Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi, before clashing with Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad.
