Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has revealed that he encouraged youngsters Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma to play golf. Yuvraj feels that playing golf will help young players to improve their game and is a great activity for the mind.
Gill and Abhishek have been named in the India squad for Asia Cup 2025, with the right-hander being appointed as the vice-captain of the team. Both batsmen are expected to open the innings for the side during the tournament.
Gill and Abhishek are amongst the top talents in Indian cricket. Gill was named as the new test skipper of India in May, while Abhishek Sharma has cemented his spot as an opener in the T20I side with his hard-hitting batting style.
I have told them to play golf: Yuvraj Singh

Speaking during an event, Yuvraj revealed that he encouraged Gill and Abhishek to play golf.
“I have told them to play golf and I encourage them to play. It’s very hard to find time, but I think the IPL is a good time for them to actually find time and hit some balls,” he said.
“It’s up to them. Now they are superstars of the game and they have to decide what’s going to help them be better. If golf can be something, then they have to decide that. But I encourage all athletes to play golf. I think it’s a great way to unwind and it’s great for the mind,” he added.
Yuvraj also added that he tells all young players to play golf, which he believes is a good activity to relax.
“I tell all the young cricketers to try and play golf, hit the ball, see how you feel. Because sometimes too much practice is also not good for you. Sometimes when you’re not scoring runs, you want to practice more, and with golf as well, you want to hit more balls. But sometimes it’s good to relax,” he said.
Yuvraj Singh was last seen on ground when he captained India Champions in World Champions of Legends 2025 tournament in July. India Champions reached the semi-finals of the tournament, where they refused to play against Pakistan Champions.
