Yuzvendra Chahal last played an ODI for India against New Zealand in January this year.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was recently dropped from the India squads for Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, has received a recall for the ODI series the tour of South Africa. BCCI announced the Indian team squads for an all-format tour of rainbow nation on November 30, 2023.

The India tour of South Africa 2023-24 consists of a three-match T20I series, a three-match ODI series, and a two-match Test series.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested from both ODIs and T20Is and hence KL Rahul will captain the side in ODIs and Suryakumar Yadav will lead in T20Is.

The tour will begin with a three-match T20I series at Durban, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg on December 10, 12, and 14. The teams will next square off in a three-match One-Day International series in Johannesburg, Gqeberha, and Paarl on December 17, 19, and 21.

The Men in Blue and the Proteas will then play two Test matches to conclude the series, the first of which will begin on December 26 at Centurion. The second and final Test begins on January 3 in Cape Town.

In the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will lead India in the ODIs against South Africa. Notably, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli requested a vacation for the tour’s white-ball leg. In addition, Sai Sudharsan has been called up for the first time, and Sanju Samson and Rajat Patidar have returned to the squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh, Arshdeep Singh, and Deepak Chahar all returned to the ODI squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been overlooked for important tournaments by the BCCI, as he missed the T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 and then the recent ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023. He wasn’t even named in the India ODI squad which played Australia before the World Cup, nor in the Indian T20I squad which is playing Australia at the moment.

But after being recalled in the ODI side for the South Africa series, Yuzvendra Chahal took to X and posted: “Here we go AGAIN!”
