Yuzvendra Chahal faces BACKLASH for recreating Medhavi Bidhuri’s ‘6-7’ viral celebration

Yuzvendra Chahal once again finds himself entrapped in a social media controversy.

Yuzvendra Chahal has once again found himself in the spotlight after bringing a viral celebration from an Indian domestic competition to the County Championship in England. The legendary spinner recreated a viral celebration from Medhavi Bidhuri after taking a wicket for Northamptonshire, quickly gaining social media attention. 

The celebration had only recently gone viral after Bidhuri used the same famous Gen Z gesture during the ongoing Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL). Chahal’s decision to recreate the same gesture showed how domestic cricket can also have a global impact on the international landscape. However, the reaction to the recreation has not been totally positive, especially with some users on social media slamming Yuzvendra Chahal, considering his recreation a mockery. 

Yuzvendra Chahal recreates Medhavi Bidhuri’s ‘6-7 celebration’

Yuzvendra Chahal is often considered one of the most seasoned entertainers in world cricket. During a recent County match for Northamptonshire, Chahal produced a celebration against Lancashire at Old Trafford. After dismissing Lancashire batter Joe Moores, the veteran Indian leg-spinner performed the distinctive hand gesture that has been called the ‘6-7’ trend.

The celebration was first noted when Delhi leg-spinner Medhavi Bidhuri, during a match of the Women’s Delhi Premier League 2026, first brought out the celebration while playing for Central Delhi Queens. The celebration involved a gesture of moving both hands up and down while signalling 6-7. She then explained that the celebration was born entirely out of her changing her shirt number from 12 to 67 on her younger sister’s suggestion. 

Bidhuri’s celebration quickly went viral, as this 6-7 gesture has now become a trademark used by many trend-setting global stars like David Warner, Kevin Pietersen and Brazilian football star Casemiro. Chahal subsequently shared footage of his own celebration on his social media pages and acknowledged it as well. 

Social media reacts against Chahal’s celebration 

Though Chahal was very relaxed about the celebration, the public reception of his actions was not very pleasant. While many fans enjoyed seeing the trend cross over from Women’s DPL to an English County game, some users criticised the spinner for recreating a celebration which they perceived as a mockery of the young Bidhuri. 

The criticism appeared to focus primarily on the perception that Chahal was attempting to steal the spotlight from a young cricketer who grew up to be a viral sensation overnight. However, Chahal, in his Instagram post, had acknowledged Bidhuri as the inspiration behind this celebration, which would only add to her stardom.
