India went in with only three spinners in the 17-member Asia Cup 2023 squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s wife Dhanashree Verma took to Instagram and posted a couple of messages after the leg-spinner was omitted from the recently announced India’s 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023.

Chahal’s exclusion from India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad was a surprising one given that the Men in Blue will play all of their matches in Sri Lanka, which is a paradise for spinners. However, surprisingly, India have picked up 6 bowlers who can bowl fast or fast-medium.

Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammed Siraj have been named in the pace department. In comparison, only Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja have been picked as the spinners.

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained that there was place for only one wrist-spinner in the squad and if they had to bring in Chahal as well, it meant dropping a seamer, which they couldn’t afford due to workload management for the next two months.

It is worth mentioning that Chahal was benched for all three matches of the ODI series against the West Indies. The senior leg-spinner has played only two ODIs so far this year.

“Terrific performer but we had to look at the balance of the team. To fit in two wrist spinners was difficult. We can fit only one wrist spinner. It’s unfortunate for one to miss out and right now, Kuldeep is a bit ahead. Kuldeep Yadav has had a fantastic run to this point. So someone had to miss out,” Agarkar said in the presser.

And now his wife Dhanashree Verma took to social media a day after Chahal was snubbed from the Asia Cup squad and posted a couple of stories on her Instagram account.

She stated: “Now I have started to question this on a serious note. If being super submissive & introverted can be harmful for your work growth? Or do we all have to be an extrovert & street smart savvy to grow in life?”

In the other story she mentioned: “In the end, it is between you and your god. And fortunately, the world is with you. Thankful, God is great.”
