Zimbabwe will become the first team in the modern era to receive a touring fee from the host board.
In a historic development, the Zimbabwe cricket team will become the first team in modern cricket to receive a “touring fee“ from the England Cricket Board (ECB) when they travel to the UK in the 2025 summer for a one-off Test.
This was confirmed by ECB chief executive Richard Gould on Friday during an interaction with Sky Sports during the ongoing final match of the three-match Test series between England and the West Indies at Edgbaston.
There’s a huge responsibility on ECB: ECB executive Gould
Last year, ECB chief executive Gould said in the Final World podcast about the revenues earned by the three biggest full member nations – ECB, BCCI and CA. He spoke about the distribution of their revenues to ensure the quality of Test cricket remains competitive.
During a recent chat with former England captain Mike Atherton on Sky Sports, Gould said that there is a huge responsibility on the Big Three boards to keep Test cricket strong.
“There’s a huge responsibility. When you look at whether it’s the revenue share from the ICC or indeed the revenue share from bilateral cricket, which is fairly old fashioned in truth in the way that it’s delivered,” Gould told Atherton on Sky Sports.
Gould confirmed that Zimabwe will receive match fees from the ECB for the one-off Test next year.
“For example, next year Zimbabwe are coming to tour [England]. Normally the way the things happen is that it’s the touring team gets itself into the country and then it’s looked after in terms of accommodation, all the rest of it. But there’s no fee for that team that’s touring. Next year when we play against Zimbabwe, there will be a fee for that team that’s touring,” Gould said.
