14th edition of Goa Police Football Cup set to commence

The tournament will commence this Sunday…
The 14th edition of Goa Police Football Cup 2016 will commence in Goa. The tournament, which will start on 7th August 2016, will continue for 13 days. In the first match Sporting Clube De Goa will lock horns with Calangute Association at Duler Football Stadium, while in the other match of the day Salgaocar FC will play against Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Ambelim Ground. Nine Goa Professional League teams will be playing along with two teams from the GFA 1st Division namely SESA Football Academy and Goa Police Sports Club. The other 10 clubs along with newly entrants Indian Navy who will be playing in the tournament are FC Bardez, Dempo Sports Club, Churchill Brothers, Salgaocar Football Club, Vasco Sports Club, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, Sporting Clube De Goa, Corps of Signals and Calangute Association. The matches will be played at Duler Football Stadium,Mapusa, Cuncolim Football Ground, Raia Panchayat Ground & Ambelim Ground at 04:00pm on league plus knock-out basis. The Goa Police Football Cup has a history of being one of the oldest football tournaments in Goa having started back in 1968. The last edition was won by TUFF Laxmi Prasad SC who beat Salgaocar FC (Jr). The winners of the Goa Police Cup will be richer by Rs.2, 00,000 along with the prestigious 5’ 5’’ silverware Rolling Trophy and the runners-up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.1, 00,000 and a trophy.
