The defeat eliminated the young Tigresses from the tournament.

The India U-17 Women’s team faced their second consecutive defeat at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022 in the hands of Morocco in their second game. Doha El Madani opened the scoring from the spot before skipper Yasmine Zouhir doubled Morocco’s lead. Left-back Djennah Cherif then put the final nail in the coffin for India and helped Morocco secure a 3-0 win over the hosts.

India, the host nation, put up a strong and improved performance, but it wasn't enough to prevent Morocco from ending their campaign.

With this defeat, India are now ruled out of the competition and will only play for respect in their last group-stage match. It was Morocco's first-ever win at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and they have now given themselves a chance to believe that they can script history.

After the game, Morocco’s skipper Yasmine Zouhir exclusively spoke to Khel Now and shared her thoughts on the win against India.

Thoughts on the game

The win against India was Morocco’s first-ever win in the tournament's history. It couldn’t be any better for the Lionesses as now they have a chance to advance to the knockouts if they do well against the USA. Sharing her thoughts on the game, Yasmin said:

“I’m very proud of the team, the players, the staff and everyone involved. It’s a big win for us. We are lionesses and we won’t give and this surely not going to be our only win,” she asserted.

Thoughts on India

The young Tigresses put up a strong performance against Morocco following the 8-0 defeat to the USA. They played their hearts out and gave tough competition to Morocco. The opposition skipper shared her thoughts on India. She said that India has a good team and that they’ll keep getting better with time.

“They are a good team. They’ll evolve if they keep working. I want to thank India for organising the World Cup and for having us here,” she signed off.
