USA U-17 star Amalia Villarreal thanks fans for turning up in numbers

The forward also spoke on the team's performance in the draw against Brazil.

Some players are special, right? They make things look so simple and easy to do. One such player is USA’s U-17 Women’s international Amalia Villarreal. Just like her name suggests, Amalia is surely a rare work of art by the footballing gods.

She is quick, sharp and skillful with her actions with the ball on the field. Amalia is not the tallest player in her team, but is still the very best. She’s so good that even her head coach Natalia Astrain was all praise for her and termed her as ‘a special player’ after USA's 1-1 draw against Brazil.

Villarreal is Natalia Astrain’s trusted lieutenant in front of goal, thanks to her heroics at the 2022 U-17 CONCACAF Championship. The forward found the back of the net eight times and assisted five goals and helped the USA become the champions.

After her debut for the USA at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup against Brazil, Amalia Villarreal exclusively spoke to Khel Now and shared her thoughts.

Thoughts on the game

It was an end-to-end contest between the two best sides of Group A that saw both the USA and Brazil giving each no time to settle. Amalia shared her thoughts on the game and said that her side played a great brand of soccer, but just couldn’t finish things in the final third.

“I feel we played a great brand of soccer and we did a lot of things that we wanted to do during practice. We just couldn’t finish things in the final third as Brazil’s keeper did an amazing job. We’re just gonna keep working for the rest of the tournament,” she stated.

Thoughts on Brazil’s goalkeeper

USA could’ve probably won the game against Brazil by a huge margin had it not been for the Brazilian keeper, Leilane who saved the day for her side with her perfectly timed reflexes and saves. Sharing a word of appreciation towards Brazil’s goalkeeper, Amalia said that the keeper did an amazing job and she has a lot of respect for her.

“I think she did a great job today and I have a lot of respect for her. And she did an amazing and the score speaks for itself,” she replied.

Message to the fans

More than 6,000 fans were in attendance during the highly electric clash between the US and Brazil. The fans made their presence felt and Amalia thanked them for their support.
