The Marina Machans ended the game with 10 players after Debjit Majumder's red card.
Chennaiyin FC played out a draw against Bengaluru FC in front of their home fans at the Marina Arena. Coach Thomas Brdaric apart from the first few minutes was happy with Chennaiyin FC’s performance. Overall the squad is building pretty well and is looking forward to the next match against FC Goa.
Here are the excerpts from Thomas Brdaric's press conference:
Thought about performance
Chennaiyin FC bounced back well after conceding a goal very early in the first half. Overall the performance was good having good possession and creating more chances.
The coach said, ”generally if you take a point against Bengaluru FC then we are satisfied. But if you look at the game as a whole there was a lack of concentration in the beginning by not marking players and letting the opposition in and score inside 10 minutes especially when we are playing at home. But the way we bounced back, created more chances but scored pretty late in the first half which gives me good hope for the upcoming games."
Thoughts about the red card?
Debjit Majumdar was shown a straight red card after bringing down Roy Krishna outside the penalty box. “I guess it was offside. We have to accept the referee's decisions at the end. Overall we had more chances but were disappointed for not converting them”.
Prasanth's Performance
Prasanth scored the only goal for Chennaiyin FC in the dying minutes of the first half helping the home side take a point from the match. The coach was impressed by Prasanth’s performance.
Thomas Brdaric said, “he is a very good guy with good experience. He has shown today how he can help us and has improved after the first game. Happy with his performance and he has to continue the same.”
Fans' Support
There was good support for Chennaiyin FC after a gap of two years. The stadium was filled with blue with the coach asking fans to support in a similar way for the next week's match.
The 47-year-old feels, "the fans were good and liked it. We expect more fans in the stadium next week for the FC Goa match. We are humble and hardworking but have a lot of challenges going into the next week. With fans' support, the on-field performance improves.”
Views on Vafa Hakhamaneshi’s Goalkeeping
Chennaiyin FC's Iranian centre-back Vafa had to take on the goalkeeping duties after Debjit was red-carded with Chenniyin not having the substitution.
“We cannot change anymore with five substitutions already done with Devansh not able to make it. In the end, we have one point and let us get on.”
