We won but have a lot to improve, says Manolo Marquez

Hyderabad FC continued their unbeaten start to the campaign and climbed to the top of the ISL Standings by edging out a 1-0 home win thanks to a goal by Javi Siverio against FC Goa. The Gaurs were unable to convert their chances in the second half and even missed a penalty to restore parity. Hyderabad FC head coach Manolo Marquez discussed his side's performance in the post match press conference.

Here's what he said.

On being on top of the table

Manolo Marquez was very happy with the team's win and the fact that they didn't concede any goals again. But he is hungry and expects more from the team. ‘’We are not conceding goals, and we are on top so this is a reason to be happy. I think that we defend with a lot of order but we need more with the ball’’.

On not being able to control the game, he further said, ‘’We did not control the game, and we play with a lot of order and attitude. We won but we have a lot of things to improve,’’ he said. 

On Siverio’s first goal of the season

The Coach was ecstatic about Siverio’s performance and he further added about how important he is to the team and how many important goals he had scored last season for the club. 

He said, "He scored a very important goal. If you remember what he did last season, he scored a goal which made Hyderabad top of the table for the first time, he scored the goal which made us qualify for the top-four in the regular season, he scored seven goals and played half minutes. 

‘’I know him perfectly and I know which work he can do. Today he was better than Bart and today the work of Javi, he deserved to play 90 minutes,’’ he added.

Speaking about one of the most formidable frontline in the league, Marquez said that he is happy with the performance of both players. ‘’Last season we played a lot of games with both players even in crucial games. It's true that Bart as a attacking midfielder has to adapt his game, as both are No. 9’s but there are both disadvantages and advantages to this’’. 

He acknowledged that the pair are a threat to any opponent at any point of the game. 

On how big a win it is for the club

Manolo Marquez said that winning games when the performance is not the best is a crucial factor to the success of the club in a long season and is very happy that they already have 10 points from four games. He asserted, ‘’Its a very good and I'm very happy we have 10 points which we will have until the end of the season. We also need to know that every opponent is hard so we need to improve in a few areas.’’ 

‘’We need to play like we did in the second half against Bengaluru FC. I also said that in a 23-game season we will have good, bad, normal and very bad games. If we can win games when we don't perform to the best, I'm happy. But we need to do more,’’ he concluded.
