The 32-year-old played just one match for the Highlanders.

In a sudden turn of events, NorthEast United’s latest addition Sylvester Igboun has left the club due to the poor facilities provided by the team. The Nigerian was the Highlanders’ sixth and final foreigner for the ISL 2022-23 season.

“Sly has left the club facilities due to poor accommodation. He was very disappointed to see the state of place that the club provided him,” a source close to developments told Khel Now.

Sylvester Igboun’s transfer to NorthEast United

The striker joined the Guwahati-based side on a one-year deal ahead of the 2022-23 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The Nigerian joined the team very late and wasn’t available for selection for the first two games.

His arrival in Guwahati was delayed due to some visa issues as he was stuck in Russia. He joined the team in the third week of October and took some time to settle in. The Nigerian finally made his first appearance for the Highlanders in a home clash against East Bengal.

He came on and transformed NEUFC as a whole. Sylvester injected a fresh air of energy and gave the home fans a glimpse of what he brings to the table. He was really quick with his on-the-ball movements, which provided great entertainment to the home fans despite the team side ending up on the losing side.

Other players are unhappy too

The source further revealed that a lot of players are not happy with the type of facilities that they’ve being provided by the club. But, Sly was the first one to object and leave the camp straight away.

“Apparently many players are unhappy with the living conditions. But, Sylvester Igboun was the one who chose to walk out first,” said the source.

NorthEast United previously accommodated their players and staff at Radisson Blu, which is one of the city's two five-star hotels. But, this year, the players are being accommodated in flats near the stadium.

Sly’s exit from NorthEast United raises a big question about the management’s seriousness in running a football club.
