The victory was the Islanders' first in ISL 2022-23.

Mumbai City FC secured a convincing victory by defeating Odisha FC 2-0 in their first home game of the 2022-23 season in the Indian Super League (ISL). An own goal by Shubham Sarangi in the 50th minute and Bipin Singh’s late strike helped the Islanders take away three points from this encounter. Ahmed Jahouh and Alberto Noguera performed terrifically to help Mumbai City FC emerge victorious in the midfield battle against the Juggernauts.

Without further ado, let us take a look at the player ratings from Saturday’s match.

Mumbai City FC (Tarkesh Jha)

Phurba Lachenpa - 6

The goalkeeper was barely tested during the course of the game. He was mainly called to action during the set-pieces and Lachenpa did fairly well to ward those threats away.

Rahul Bheke - 6

Bheke had a quiet first-half but he started venturing ahead in the second essay and linked well with Chhangte for Mumbai City’s opening goal.

Rostyn Griffiths - 6

The centre-back marshalled the backline well in Mourtada Fall’s absence. He made a couple of erratic passes near the 18-yard box in the first-half but capped off a convincing individual performance eventually.

Mehtab Singh - 6

Mehtab slotted into the role seamlessly despite not starting in the opening fixture last week. He made some good challenges and thwarted any incisive threats from Odisha’s frontline.

Sanjeev Stalin - 5

Stalin had a rather quiet game. He didn’t make any probing runs forward and did little of note defensively in his first league start for his new club.

Apuia Ralte - 6.5

Apuia faded into the sidelines in the presence of the more prolific duo of Noguera and Jahouh. However, he worked tirelessly in defence and kept Odisha FC’s midfield at bay for a large part of the game.

Ahmed Jahouh - 8

Jahouh arguably gave the head coach a gentle reminder of what the team missed out on in their first match. The Moroccan midfielder masterfully distributed the ball from the centre of the park and consistently brought Chhangte into the game with his creative cross-field passes.

Alberto Noguera - 8

Noguera helped Mumbai transition easily from defence to attack as he recovered the ball and then released it precisely on multiple occasions during the game. He covered a large part of the field and interlinked incredibly well with Jahouh to ensure that Mumbai always played on the front foot.

Lallianzuala Chhangte - 7.5

Chhangte made several testing runs throughout his time on the pitch and delivered the goods with his brilliant footwork and shot that led to Mumbai City’s opening goal in the 50th minute.

Bipin Singh - 7.5

Bipin would have hoped for some better deliveries inside the box but with his runs down the flank, he managed to round up his overall performance with a neat finish for Mumbai’s second goal in the 94th minute.

Greg Stewart - 6.5

Stewart engaged in some sublime passing patterns with Noguera near the box and he eventually topped his efforts with the assist for Bipin’s goal in injury time.

Substitutes:

Vinit Rai - 5

Vinit helped Mumbai City beat Odisha FC in the midfield tussle in the latter stages of the game.

Jorge Pereyra Diaz - 5

Diaz made some efforts to win the ball upfront but his efforts didn’t bear any constructive results eventually.

Vignesh Dakshniamurthy - 6

Vignesh managed to make an impact with a near-perfect cross that Diaz couldn’t convert into a goal towards the fag end of the game.

Vikram Pratap Singh - N/A

Odisha FC (Souvari Paul)

Amrinder Singh - 8

Amrinder’s day at office was quite good today. He made two saves and one clearance. He had nothing to do in case of the first goal. Both the goals conceded by Odisha FC were defensive errors.

Shubham Sarangi - 5.5

Shubham had a very bad outing as it was he who scored the first goal for Mumbai City, an own goal. Also, he made five tackles, none of which were successful. The only positive for him was he made five clearances.

Osama Malik - 7.5

Osama was one of the good defenders of Odisha FC on the day. He played his part well by making five clearances, one successful interception, and blocking one shot.

Carlos Delgado - 6

Delgado performed in an underwhelming manner. He made only one successful tackle, one successful interception, and one clearance. Being at the heart of his team’s defence, fans would expect more from him.

Sahil Panwar - 6

Sahil’s outing was very similar to that of Delgado, with all of his defensive stats showing one attempt. He also wasn’t much effective going up in the attack.

Raynier Fernandes - 6.5

Raynier’s game was underwhelming when compared to what he can do. He was not much impactful in Odisha FC's attacks today. He proved to be more impactful for Odisha’s defence by making six tackles and two successful interceptions.

Saul Crespo - 7.5

Saul effectively played his part in midfield by contributing to both Odisha FC’s attack and defence. He took one shot, created one chance, and played a number of passes at the centre. He aided his defence by putting in six tackles and two successful interceptions.

Isaac Vanmalsawma - 6

It was not the day for Isaac. He did not prove to be much effective in any phase of the game. The only positive for him was that he had the highest number of touches among Odisha FC players.

Jerry Mawihmingthanga - 6

Jerry had a mixed outing today. He only took two shots, both of which were blocked. However, he kept pestering Mumbai City’s defence from the right side. He also aided his side’s defence by putting in two tackles.

Diego Maurício - 6.5

Considering the benchmark set by him, it was not the day for Mauricio. Yet, he played quite well and took three shots, two of which were on target.

Nandha Kumar - 7.5

Nandha Kumar proved to be a constant threat to Mumbai City’s defence throughout the time he was on the pitch. He took three shots, one of which was on target. He also provided five crosses, none of which, however, were converted to a goal.

Substitutes

Thoiba Singh - 5.5

Thoiba did not prove to be much effective after coming on as a sub. He had very few touches and played very few passes. He took two shots, none of which were on target.

Narender Gahlot - 5

The case is the same with Narender as well. He had very few touches and played very few passes. He tried his best to give stability to Odisha FC’s defence, but was not able to change the game.

Pedro Martin - 4.5

Pedro also had a poor outing today. He played for around 22 minutes and had only eight touches. Moreover, he played only six passes, among which only two reached the desired player.

Victor Rodriguez - N/A

Victor was on the pitch for only around 12 minutes, which was not enough for him to change the course of the game.

Isak Vanlalruatfela - N/A

Isak’s story is the same as well as he was also on the pitch for 12 minutes. Consequently, he couldn’t impact the game.
