Top talking points of Bundesliga 2022-23 Matchday 12
Union Berlin remain on top of the German top flight table
This week's matchday 12 of the Bundesliga 2022-23 campaign delivered a lot of excitement and surprised us with a number of high-energy matchups.
However, there is a plot twist this time, with Bayern Munich not in their customary position, in the first place, with Union Berlin occupying that position with their fantastic form and remaining a point clear of Bayern, who are second, while Dortmund remains fourth, four points adrift of first place.
This season, the title race appears to be out of the norm, and many clubs remain the contender to lift the title, but first, we look at top talking points from Bundesliga matchday 12.
Dortmund moves into fourth place thanks to a goal from Bellingham
The England international has been in excellent form and has attracted the attention of many of Europe's premier teams. With a winner in a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, the midfielder underlined once again why he is Europe's most demanded player. Dortmund has risen to fourth place, two points ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Dortmund will try to build on this triumph when they face Copenhagen in the Champions League, where they have already secured a place in the last 16. While Frankfurt will try to regroup in the next match, Daichi Kamada, who scored a lone goal, will find solace in moving himself into contention for the Golden Boot.
For the first time, six different players scored for Bayern
Bayern Munich made headlines yet again in matchday 12 with a 6-2 thrashing of Mainz, this time with six different players scoring. Bayern Munich has sustained their excellent form and are putting pressure on league leaders Union Berlin. Jamal Musiala and summer signing Mane have continued to impress. Despite their inadequacies and rumours of Naglesmann's dismissal, Bayern Munich have rallied back and will be hoping to extend their title-winning streak this season as well.
Danilho Doekhi, last minute goal keeps Union Berlin at the top
Union Berlin were relieved when Danilho Doekhi scored in the 97th minute, as it appeared like they were on track to draw with Monchengladbach, which could have cut the gap with second-placed Bayern Munich. However, there are still concerns that the club may lose its position in the future because it has been difficult to win matches, and a 2-1 loss to VFL Bochum in the previous game has made the title battle even more fierce, with only one point separating Union Berlin and Bayern Munich.
Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku give RB Leipzig a convincing win over Leverkusen
Timo Werner has been vibrant since leaving Chelsea and was given a point to prove; the German striker has not disappointed so far and has shown commitment and purpose in every match, he was once again on the scoresheet in their impressive Champions League 3-2 win over Real Madrid. If he continues his magnificent form, he could help the club win the title this season.
In contrast, Nkunku, another teenager on the radar of several teams, has maintained his goal-scoring prowess with nine goals this season, placing him second in the league table for most goals. The duo's goal-scoring abilities have allowed Leipzig to remain ruthless in front of goal.
