Paris Saint-Germain are one of the best teams in World football at the moment. They have seen a recent revamp after being bought by new owners. They have been one of the most successful clubs in the last decade. The only trophy that has eluded them so far has been the Champions League. The club from Paris despite going into the tournament for the last 5-6 years as one of the favourites has failed to lift the prestigious trophy.
Despite failing to win the Champions League, PSG has given some memorable performances in the tournament and defeated some of the biggest clubs in Europe. The club from Paris has also seen some of the biggest names in World football represent them over the years. Here is a look at the top 10 goal scorers for PSG in the Champions League.
10. Blaise Matuidi (6 goals)
Blaise Matuidi spent the majority of his career playing for Paris Saint-Germain. The Frenchman joined PSG from Saint-Etienne back in 2011 and spent six years with the Parisian Club. Matuidi was a part of PSG’s reemergence under new owners in the early part of the 2010s. The midfielder went on to make over 200 appearances in the league for PSG. Matuidi made 45 appearances for PSG in the Champions League and ended up scoring six goals for them in Europe’s elite club competition.
9. Ezequiel Lavezzi (7 goals)
After Lavezzi helped Napoli win their first trophy in over 20 years, he was recruited by PSG for €30 million in the summer of 2012. Lavezzi spent four years at the club in which time he made more than 100 league appearances. The forward, known for his creativity and dribbling ability, won the Ligue 1 titles during his time with PSG. In the Champions League, the Argentine made 31 appearances for the Parisian club and scored seven goals.
8. George Weah (7 goals)
George Weah has had a glorious career and have represented some of the biggest clubs in Europe. The forward won the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the year back in 1995, making him the first player to do so while playing for an African country. Weah joined PSG in 1992 and helped them win the Ligue 1 in 1994. He was also the top-scorer in the 1994-95 Champions League season. The Liberian spent three years in PSG in which time he made 10 Champions league appearances and scored seven goals. George Weah is currently the President of Liberia.
7. Lionel Messi (7 goals)
Lionel Messi has been in the club for only over one year and he has already made it to the top 10 scorers for PSG in the UCL. The former Barcelona forward joined PSG in the summer of 2021 in a move that grabbed the World’s attention. Despite having a poor first season with PSG, Messi has finally found his groove in his second season with the French Champions. The Argentine has scored seven goals so far in the ten matches that he has played for PSG in the Champions League.
6. Marquinhos (9 goals)
It is not very often that you’ll see a defender in a top 10 goalscorers list. Marquinhos has been a part of the PSG defense for over nine years now, since he joined the French Club in 2013. The centre-back has since then made close to 250 league appearances for PSG. Despite being a defender, the Brazilian is known for his knack of scoring goals in crucial times. He has netted nine times in the Champions League in 77 appearances for the club from Paris.
5. Angel Di Maria (14 goals)
Angel Di Maria has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world over his career. After an underwhelming season for Manchester United in 2014-15, Di Maria left the Red Devils to join PSG. Di Maria had a successful time at Paris, winning five league titles in his seven years with the club. The Argentine is the highest assist provider in PSG’s history. Di Maria left PSG for Juventus earlier this year. In his time with the French Club, the winger scored 14 goals in 54 appearances in the UCL.
4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (20 goals)
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was one of PSG’s first big name signing after being bought by new owners. The forward joined the French club in 2012 from AC Milan. Ibrahimovic then led PSG to their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years. The Swedish international dominated in France, winning four back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and top scoring in three of those seasons. He also became PSG’s all-time-leading goalscorer at that time. Zlatan left for Manchester United in 2016 after spending 4 years at the club. In that time Ibrahimovic made 33 UCL appearances for PSG and scored 20 goals.
3. Neymar (21 goals)
Neymar’s move from Barcelona to PSG in the summer of 2017 made him the most expensive player in the world, a record that still stands. One of the biggest names in the Football world, Neymar won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year in his debut season with PSG. Despite his tenure at PSG being considered underwhelming, Neymar still has won four Ligue 1 titles with the Parisian club and also led them to their first Champions League final. The Brazilian has till now scored 21 goals in the Champions League for PSG.
2. Edinson Cavani (30 goals)
In the summer of 2013, Cavani followed his Napoli team-mate Lavezzi to PSG in a deal that cost the club from Paris €64m. He then went on to stay 7 years with the club and ended up becoming their all time leading goalscorer which he still is to this day. The Uruguayan has made more than 200 appearances for the club and scored close to 200 goals. Cavani has won six Ligue 1 titles with PSG. The forward made 54 appearances in the Champions League for PSG and netted 30 times.

And PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Champions League is Kylian Mbappe. The 23-yeard-old is one of the best players in the world right now. Mbappe has been unstoppable since making his debut as a teenager. The French international joined PSG for a whooping €180m at just the age of 18. It turned out to be money well spent for the club as the young striker hasn’t stopped scoring since joining them. The World Cup winner is already the club’s second highest all time goalscorer. Mbappe has made 48 Champions League appearances for PSG and scored 31 goals.
