The Gaurs scripted their first-ever win over the Mariners in the Indian Super League.
It was another brilliant night out for FC Goa as they trampled ATK Mohun Bagan in a dominant 3-0 victory at the Fatorda Stadium on Sunday in ISL 2022-23. After a goalless first half, thanks to some outstanding goalkeeping from ATKMB keeper Vishal Kaith, FC Goa eventually found the net in the second half.
Aiban Dohling ventured forward in a daring move and finished emphatically past Kaith, blasting his shot into the far post. Substitutes Fares Arnaout and Noah Sadaoui then got on the score sheet. Edu Bedia found the towering Arnaout in the ATK Mohun Bagan box as he headed home Goa's second in the 76th minute. Exactly six minutes later, Noah tried his luck from range and his rasping shot trickled goalwards afterKaith failed to keep it out.
Let us now take a look at Khel Now's player ratings for the night:
FC Goa (By Riddhiman Sarkar)
Dheeraj Singh - 6.5
Passed extremely well under pressure but did not even have to make a save.
Seriton Fernandes - 6.5
Pushed up along the right flank as Valiente and Ali helped maintain a high backline. Completed 87% of his passes and one of his two long balls.
Marc Valiente - 6
Went into the book after tugging back Subhasish Bose after the wing-back was clear and through on goal. Substituted off for Arnaout in the 65th minute after winning only one of his two ground duels.
Anwar Ali - 8
Vigilant at the heart of defence and also as a set-piece threat. He almost had a goal but was ruled offside. Had a brilliant game as he won four of his five ground duels and wasn’t dribbled past even once, shutting out the entire ATK Mohun Bagan attack.
Aiban Dohling - 7.5
Played in tandem with Brandon and Bedia as he rarely had to track back. Hugged Mohun Bagan half’s touchlines more often than not, which led to his goal. The full-back dribbled past two and smashed in a far-post-top-corner finish.
Edu Bedia- 7.5
Combined well with Iker Guarrotxena to keep things flowing in the middle of the park. His long ranger was the best of the lot as it was brilliantly tipped away by Vishal Kaith. Moments later his dead-ball delivery almost found a leaping Anwar Ali but the centre-back was flagged offside. Got his assist eventually in the second half as he set up Arnaout for FC Goa’s second of the night.
Ayush Dev Chhetri - 6.5
Contested seven ground duels and won only three but did not falter or lose possession in vital areas. Although the young midfielder was not the game-changer, he was the anchor which allowed Bedia to bomb forward.
Redeem Tlang - 6
Was not very effective on the wings and had an average day as he was marshaled well by Subhasish Bose. Came off in the 65th minute for Makan Chote after getting 40 touches on the ball and generating only one key pass.
Brandon Fernandes - 6.5
Brilliant covering as the captain kept a check on the dangerous spaces and defended as valiantly as he created chances. Went off in the 86th minute for Sanson Pereira after having achieved a 74% in his passing accuracy.
Iker Guarrotxena- 7
Played in a hybrid no. 8 and no. 10 roles as he switched in and out of midfield and attacked at will. Two of his shots were kept out by Kaith as he made two key passes
Alvaro Vazquez- 6
Had three shots, two of which were from obtuse angles but tested Vishal Kaith. Opened up acres of space for his teammates. Pena took him off in the 74th minute to bring in Noah after the Spaniard missed two big chances.
Substitutes
Fares Arnaout- 7.5
Scored off Edu Bedia’s delivery after coming on to justify his manager’s faith. The Syrian galvanised Goa’s defence and won his only aerial battle and made some lunging tackles to win two of his three ground duels.
Noah Sadaoui - 7.5
A super-sub appearance from the Moroccan this time. His fourth goal of the season came from a screamer after getting only nine touches on the ball. His shot from almost 40 yards out stung Kaith’s gloves and trickled in.
Makan Chote- 6.5
Drifted in and out of spaces well after coming on but only got on the ball eight times.
Princeton Rebello - N/A
Played only 11 minutes and attempted only four passes out of which he managed to complete three.
Sanson Pereira - N/A
Didn't have anything to contribute as he only got on the ball thrice.
ATK Mohun Bagan (By Souvari Paul)
Vishal Kaith - 5.5
Vishal had a forgettable performance tonight. Two of the goals that the team conceded were from his errors. However, he began the match well. He made four saves out of the eight shots faced on goal, made one clearance, and punched six balls. But, he allowed three goals and cost the match.
Asish Rai - 5.5
Asish had a bad game today. Initially, he played well going up with the team. He had 57 touches in total and played 25 passes. He took one shot and created one chance. In defence, he made two successful tackles and two successful interceptions. However, he should have done more in the case of FC Goa’s first goal.
Pritam Kotal - 6.0
Pritam had a poor performance when compared to his quality. He had 42 touches in total and made 30 passes. He was not much good in defence as can be observed from the scoreline, making only one clearance and two successful interceptions.
Brendan Hamill - 6.0
It was a bad night for most of the defenders of ATK Mohun Bagan. Brendan Hamill was no exception. He had 51 touches in total and made 35 successful passes. In defence, he was not much effective in preventing Goa’s goals. He made eight clearances throughout the game.
Subhasish Bose - 7.5
Subhasish had a good game today. He had the highest number of touches for his side, namely 77. He also made 40 successful passes, again the highest for his side. Moreover, he had whipped in two crosses, made two successful tackles, one clearance, and blocked one shot.
Deepak Tangri - 6.5
Deepak had a mixed game today. He played for around 71 minutes and had 36 touches and made 20 passes. He contributed defensively by making two successful tackles, one clearance, and one successful interception. However, it was not enough to prevent their defeat.
Hugo Boumous - 4.5
Boumous would definitely like to forget his performance in today’s game. He had 48 touches and made 25 passes. He was not able to make any significant contribution to his team’s attack or defence throughout the match.
Joni Kauko - 6.5
Kauko was decent for his side tonight. He took one shot, created one chance, had 42 touches, and made 18 passes. He also made two successful tackles and five successful interceptions.
Manvir Singh - 5.0
ATK Mohun Bagan’s attack looked very blunt today and they could not register a single shot on target. Manvir’s performance reflected this fact. Throughout the game. he whipped in two crosses and took two shots, both of which were off-target. Apart from that, he had 34 touches and made 17 passes.
Dimitri Petratos - 5.5
Dimitri played fairly well among ATK Mohun Bagan's attackers. He created one chance and whipped in five crosses. However, these were not enough to threaten FC Goa’s goal.
Liston Colaco - 4.5
Liston Colaco had a terrible outing. He could not contribute in any effective manner to the game. Throughout the match, he took one shot, which was off-target, and floated in one cross.
Substitutes
Carl McHugh - 7.5
McHugh tried to instill life into ATK Mohun Bagan’s game after coming on as a sub. However, it was not possible for him to change the game alone as he lacked support. He created one chance, took one shot, and floated in a cross. In around 31 minutes, he had 41 touches and made 25 passes. He also made two successful tackles and one clearance.
Ashique Kuruniyan - 6.5
Ashique was on the pitch for around 19 minutes. Within this time, he created one chance and floated in two crosses. Still, his efforts could not change the course of the game.
Kiyan Nassiri - N/A
Nassiri was on the pitch for around eight minutes. It was not enough for him to change the game.
Fradin Ali Molla - N/A
The case is similar with Fardin as well as he was also on the pitch for around eight minutes.
