The Brazilian forward has a history of injuries that hasn’t helped his career. Certainly, fans hope that Brazil’s World Cup campaign doesn’t get hampered by a setback with their biggest star player getting ruled out.
Firstly, Brazil went toe to toe against Serbia in the final fixture of matchday 1 at the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar. Secondly, Richarlison’s brace was the major talking point as the South American side eased past the Eagles. Finally the Tottenham forward was on fire as he scored a fantastic scissor kick. Football fans and pundits have tipped it to be the goal of the tournament.
Will Neymar return in the FIFA World Cup 2022?
However, the injury to Neymar has taken center stage since because of the images and clips that have gone viral where Neymar is seen hobbling off with a swollen ankle. The injury forced Neymar to come off as a sub with 11 minutes left on the clock. The 30-year-old Brazilian was almost in tears as he sat on the bench before limping his way back into the dressing room.
Brazil’s head coach, Tite is still positive about the PSG forward’s involvement in the tournament. He has insisted that Neymar will play again in the ongoing World Cup despite suffering what seems like a sprained ankle in the Group G fixture against Serbia.
It was a near-perfect game for the Brazilian head coach apart from the injury scare but he still remains positive. Tite said that Neymar will be assessed over the next 28-48 hours and that he is confident that the injury is not serious and that he will return.
“Don’t worry, Neymar will play in the World Cup,” he said. Tite further added, “He will keep playing, you can be sure about that.”
