The K-pop star will join Shakira, Dua Lipa and others in the extravaganza.

South Korean pop star and member of the popular boy band BTS, Jung Kook, will perform at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar on November 20, 2022. Kook will join the likes of Colombian singer Shakira and ‘New Rules’ star Dua Lipa in the grand event that will kick off the mega tournament.

“Proud to announce that Jung Kook is part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Soundtrack & will perform at the World Cup opening ceremony. Stay tuned!” the official Twitter handle of BTS confirmed in a tweet on Saturday.

The opening ceremony will take place around an hour prior to the first game of the World Cup. Qatar and Ecuador will kick off proceedings on 20th November at the Al Bayt Stadium.

The ceremony will feature the official anthem, songs from the soundtrack and also the mascot of the competition. La'eeb, an Arabic word meaning a super-skilled player, is the official mascot of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Meanwhile, FIFA has released four separate official songs for this edition of the World Cup. The tracks are: Hayya Hayya by Cardona, Davido, and Aisha, Arhbo. The World Is Yours To Take by Lil Baby. And Light The Sky by Balqees, Manal, Rahma Riad and Nora Fatehi.

Jung Kook had actually made a short trip to Qatar last year. It set the rumour mills abuzz about his possible participation in the grand opening ceremony. The hashtag #WelcomeToQatarJungkook had begun trending on Twitter at that point in time.

BTS has also collaborated with Hyundai for their ‘Goal of the Century’ song ‘Yet To Come’ (Hyundai version). It is a remake of ‘Yet To Come’ (The Most Beautiful Moment), which is the title song of the ‘Proof’ album released by K-Pop band in June.
