Australia announces 26-man squad for 2022 FIFA World Cup
This will be the nation's fifth consecutive appearance in the tournament
Socceroos Head coach Graham Arnold named his 26-man squad to represent Australia at the FIFA World Cup 2022. Where the Socceroos will face champions France, Tunisia and Denmark in Group D. The 26-man squad confirms a dream call-up for 18-year-old sensation Garang Kuol and some bombshell omissions.
Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will captain the side in Qatar. This will be his third FIFA World Cup. The last time the Aussies were eliminated from the group stages of the world cup in 2018. Out of 5 countries from AFC Australia is one of them. Head Coach Graham Arnold said the Socceroos go to Qatar full of pride and belief after a challenging four years.
“It’s been a unique and difficult qualification campaign. And we now arrive in Qatar with an exciting squad which will do everything to make Australia proud on the world stage,” Arnold said. After securing qualification for the fifth consecutive FIFA World Cup, the sixth appearance in total. The Socceroos will be looking to progress through the group stages for the first time since 2006.
The Socceroos kick off their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 campaign against defending champions France at Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday, 22 November at 10.00 pm local / Wednesday, 23 November at 6:00 am AEDT.
