Both teas shared a point apiece in their first clash in Group H.
The FIFA World Cup has witnessed many bizarre records set. On Thursday, ye another such record was set in the Uruguay vs South Korea match in FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The game ended in a goalless draw, fourth such in the tournament this year.
Both teams came close to scoring, with Uruguay twice hitting the post. The encounter between South Korea and Uruguay was a fierce duel, with both teams sharing similar possession. Although South Korea were more intimidating, they lacked the cutting edge in the opposition box. The Asian giants' aggressive pressing caused issues for Uruguay, who were often unable to match the pace.
South Korea had an excellent opportunity to grab the breakthrough when Hwang Ui Jo squandered his shot from 12 yards out. On the contrary, the South American giants were almost in command when Diego Godin's header hit the far post. Uruguay nearly scored again when Federico Valverde's shot ricocheted off the post.
However, the South American giants were disappointed not to win. South Korea had one last chance to take the lead when Sergio Rochet's erroneous clearing landed in Heung-Min Son's path, but he fired wide.
Uruguay vs South Korea first World Cup match without a shot on target in this century
Interestingly, Uruguay attempted 10 shots, while South Korea had seven, none of which were on target. This is the first time it has occurred in a World Cup game in this century. While both teams had enough attempts on goal, none of them managed to trouble the goalkeeper.
FIFA recorded zero shots on target for both teams, a rare occurrence in a World Cup game. It is the first time such a thing has happened in the FIFA World Cup match this century. It comes quite as a surprise as some of the world's best forwards were in the match.
