The 2022 Qatar World Cup is about to begin soon on 20th November. The glorious competition will kick off with the host nation Qatar facing Ecuador. Argentina and Brazil are arguably the favourites to win the World Cup this year. However, Lionel Messi and Argentina came close to winning it back in 2014.

Now, Lionel Messi has just one last chance to win the World Cup for Argentina. Let's take a look at the top 5 players that can help Lionel Messi and Argentina win the 2022 World Cup.

5) Lisandro Martinez

Quite unusual to see Lisandro Martinez here since Scaloni usually opts for Otamendi and Christian Romero. However, Lisandro Martinez has performed great in the Premier League for Manchester United. Argentina manager Scaloni can choose Martinez for a variety of reasons. Lisandro has debunked the myth that he will struggle in the Premier League because of his height. Currently, Martinez is one of the best on-the-ball defenders in the Premier league and definitely one of the best in aerial duels.

Lisandro Martinez will feature in his first World Cup. The Manchester United centre-back has only played one game for Argentina yet.

4) Emiliano Martinez

Martinez's performances will be crucial for Argentina. Emiliano Martinez first proved his worth after winning the FA Cup with Arsenal. After leaving Arsenal, Emiliano stayed consistent with Aston Villa helping them win various games. However, the biggest highlight of his career came in the Copa America 2020. Argentina sealed their first Copa America in 28 years with Emiliano Martinez saving various penalties as well.

The case is different because Martinez will feature in his first World Cup.

3) Rodrigo De Paul

Just a few days after winning the Copa America with Argentina, Atletico Madrid signed De Paul for €35 million. The Argentinian signed a five-year deal with Los Rojiblancos. De Paul is not at his best with Atletico Madrid as of now but is a completely different player from Argentina. Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni will look to play De Paul right at the centre of the midfield. A midfield maestro or perhaps the engine of the midfield, De Paul can definitely fit in there.

One of De Paul's best abilities is his breaking up various lines of the opposition team through his exquisite passes. He displayed this skill against Brazil in the Copa America final when he assisted Di Maria.

2) Lautaro Martinez

Argentina's expected front-three line-up is Messi - Lautaro - Di Maria. Lautaro Martinez had a wonderful 2021/22 campaign scoring 25 goals in 49 games. Many big clubs were rumoured to buy the Argentinian striker. Even this season Lautaro has garnered 14 goal contributions in 21 appearances.

Lautaro Martinez is widely known to beat his markers and scoring goals. Martinez has scored 21 goals in 40 appearances for Argentina since 2018. Lautaro is arguably the most crucial player for both Argentina and Lionel Messi. This is because Messi's role as a playmaker is one of the best in the world only if put to use with the help of a world-class striker like Lautaro Martinez.

1) Angel Di Maria

Di Maria is one of the most underrated football players of our generation. Angel Di Maria has played in various big clubs in his career. He performed exquisitely under the shadow of many big players until he earned his recognition. Angel Di Maria even scored the winning goal against Brazil in the Copa America final.

It will also be the last World Cup for Di Maria alongside Lionel Messi. Besides Lionel Messi, though not of his calibre, Argentina has the services of world-class players like Di Maria and Dybala. As of now Dybala is injured and is not at 100 percent fitness. This leaves Di Maria as the only other winger/playmaker alongside Lionel Messi to win the World Cup for Argentina.
