Ratings: El Khayati dazzles as Chennaiyin FC smash seven past Northeast United FC

The Marina Machans impressed with a wonderful collective performance

Chennaiyin FC rode on a Nasser El-Khayati hat trick and a brace from Petar Sliskovic to hammer seven goals past a hapless Northeast United side. The Highlanders managed by Vicenzo Alberto Annese for the first time endured a humiliating 3-7 defeat against a robust Chennaiyin FC side.

The home side did score thrice themselves to put some semblance of respectability on the scoreline. But it temporarily mirrored over another timid defensive performance from Annese's men. As a result, Chennaiyin FC racked up the biggest scoreline of this season.

Without further ado, let's take a look at the player ratings for both teams from the high goalscoring game.

NorthEast United FC (By Tarkesh Jha)

Arindam Bhattacharja – 3.5

Having had to deal with 16 shots, the goalkeeper saved only three of them and let the ball go into the back of the net seven times. Gradually, he seemed to have succumbed to the piles of pressure that Chennaiyin asserted on the hapless Highlanders.

Gaurav Bora - 4

With a 33% passing accuracy, Bora had as clueless an outing as the rest of his defensive partners. Chennaiyin FC managed to collectively roll over the home side.

Mashoor Shareef – 3.5

The centre-back was unable to resist the truckloads of relentless pressure that the opposition asserted on their backline. He committed two fouls and was booked once before being hauled off the field in the 70th minute.

Michael Jakobsen – 3.5

Jakobsen failed to lead the defensive with conviction. The players hid in a shell as the game progressed with no source of inspiration stemming from the backend of the field.

Gurjinder Kumar - 4

Gurjinder was constantly involved in defence, making two tackles and six rushed clearances. However, he was one of the cogs of the wheel that failed miserably on arguably one of the most embarrassing nights in the history of the club. The left-back restored some pride by notching an assist eventually though.

Aaron Evans – 3.5

Evans couldn’t control the tempo of the game and let Chennaiyin’s midfield run over that of NorthEast pretty conveniently. He bagged an assist but it wouldn’t be far from the truth to say that he put up a timid performance at the centre of the park tonight.

Emil Benny – 3.5

Benny was one of the culprits of the total lack of coordination witnessed in NorthEast’s midfield in this game. The players couldn’t string together a series of passes and were lacklustre with respect to recovering possession as well.

Romain Philippoteaux – 4.5

The Frenchman helped NorthEast reduce the margin of defeat with a goal in the 73rd minute. However, he was pegged back by the Chennaiyin attacking moves for the better part of the game and hardly had a glance at the goal other than the strike that he managed to put at the back of the net.

Jithin M.S – 3.5

The 24-year-old couldn’t do anything of note in the 70 minutes he spent on the field. Jithin had no shots to show for and he, much like the other forwards, was pushed back into defence due to the consistent period of dominance that Chennaiyin maintained in the proceedings.

Parthib Gogoi – 3.5

Gogoi was taken off the field in the 33rd minute and he barely had any constructive involvement on the field in that short span of time either.

Wilmar Jordan Gil – 4.5

Gil comfortably slotted the ball into the back of the net from the spot-kick to level the scores in the 36th minute. However, he was starved of any proper service from the midfield after that as NorthEast completely lost the plot in the second half.

Substitutes

Mohamed Irshad – 3.5

Irshad got booked once for a foul that reflected of the home team’s inability to cope with or grab hold of the proceedings, particularly in the second half.

Jon Gaztagana – 3.5

Gaztagana was brought on to reinvigorate the team’s form and fortune but the midfielder couldn’t do anything of substance in the 39 minutes he spent on the field.

Matt Derbyshire – 3.5

The forward took no shots on target as he merely watched the entire defence and midfield crumble in that horror of a second half.

Rochharzela – 4

Both Rochharzela’s introduction to the field and as well as his goal were too little too late for the flailing NorthEast United setup.

Debjit Majumder - 6

Debjit made three saves on the night but had to contend with a penalty, a wonderful strike from Romain Philippoteuax and a botched clearance which led to the third goal. Otherwise, he wasn’t bothered much and largely secure on the night. 

Mohammed Rafique - 6

Rafique did well in his first start for CFC. Playing out of position, Rafique completed 76% of his passes, won one tackle and made three interceptions.  

Fallou Diagne - 7

The centre-back was rarely troubled by the Northeast attack and did a good job of recycling play. Fallou completed 86% of his 44 attempted passes (fifth most on the night). Defensively, he made two clearances and one interception. 

Gurmukh Singh - 6

The centre-back, like Diagne, was rarely troubled by the Northeast attackers. He completed 77% of his passes and made three interceptions and one clearance on the night. 

Aakash Sangwan - 7.5

The left-back impressed at both ends tonight. Sangwan assisted the third goal for CFC scored by Sliskovic. He made 76 touches (third highest by any player), completed 70% of his passes and attempted six crosses. Defensively, he won two tackles, made five interceptions and one clearance while also blocking one shot. 

Julius Duker - 8

The German scored and assisted for the Marina Machans and created two chances on the night. He had 78 touches (second highest by any player) and completed 76% of his passes. Defensively, he made one clearance and two interceptions. 

Edwin Vanspaul - 6.5

Edwin was impressed in the middle of the park both with and without the ball. He won two tackles and made one clearance and two interceptions. Vanspaul also covered the most distance by any player on the night (9.7 km). He completed 78% of his passes and had the fourth-highest number of touches by a CFC player. 

Nasser El Khayati - 10 

The Dutchman was exemplary and blew Northeast away with his individual brilliance. He contributed to five goals (the most in an ISL game) including a sensational hat trick. El Khayati bamboozled the Highlanders with his dribbling but also showed a good eye for a pass and certainly for the goal. 

Prashanth Karuthadathkuni - 7.5 

Prashanth conceded a penalty with a botched clearance which hit his hand. But otherwise, the winger had an unblemished game and caused loads of problems on the wing. He assisted the opening goal of the night. Prashanth completed 63% of his passes and created two chances. He made one clearance and interception respectively before being taken off in the 72nd minute for Sajal Bag. Prashanth also clocked the highest speed in the game (33 km/h). 

Rahim Ali - 5

The winger would be disappointed not to contribute and have a piece of Chennaiyin FC’s attacking exploits tonight. He took no shots during the game but did a decent job of contributing to the buildup. Rahim completed 72% of his passes and created two chances on the night. Defensively, he won one tackle before being taken off at the hour mark for Vincy Baretto. 

Petar Sliskovic - 9

The German was a nightmare for the Northeast centrebacks. He scored a brace and assisted El Khayati for the latter’s hat trick. Sliskovic was instrumental upfront for the Marina Machans and created three chances while completing 68% of his passes. He was taken off at the hour mark for Kwame Karikari. 

Substitutes 

Kwame Karikari - 6

The Ghanaian came off the bench and scored the 7th goal for Chennaiyin FC. Otherwise, he didn’t have much to do with only 12 touches in his 30-minute stint on the pitch. 

Vincy Barretto - 6

Vincy was brought on at the hour mark and won two tackles. He had some good runs and threatened to score. But his only other notable contributions were 15 touches and six completed passes. 

Vafa Hakhamaneshi - 6

The Iranian hopped on at the 72nd minute and didn’t have much to do in the remaining time. He completed 88% of his eight attempted passes. 

Sajal Bag - 6

The midfielder replaced Prashanth and won one tackle. He also made one clearance and interception during the game. On the ball, Bag completed seven passes at an accuracy of 88%. 

Suhail Pasha - N/A 

Came off the bench for the last five minutes and didn’t have much to do in the game.
