The Blues are welcoming an interesting talent to their squad.
Bengaluru FC have signed Spanish midfielder Pablo Perez, according to La Voz de Asturias in Spain. The Indian Super League (ISL) outfit welcomes the former Sporting de Gijon player who was a free agent since the summer. He becomes the new foreign addition to Simon Grayson’s squad which has the likes of Javi Hernandez, Roy Krishna, Alan Costa and Bruno Ramires.
Pablo Perez is an attack-minded midfielder who was out of contract since his deal with Sporting de Gijon did not renew. The Spanish club saw a change of ownership which changed the plans and the parties did not move forward with the contract renewal.
Pouncing on the chance of adding more quality to their team, Bengaluru FC have signed the free agent. The 29-year-old is the replacement of forward Prince Ibarra, who has been injured for quite some time. Perez's arrival could be a boost for the Blues, as they are struggling to find momentum in the ongoing 2022-23 ISL season.
About the Player
Pablo Perez was born in the city of Gijon and came through the ranks of Sporting Gijon’s developmental teams. Since 2012, he played all but one season with the Spanish outfit. During the 2016-17 season, the Spaniard spent a season on loan with AD Alcorcon.
The move to Bengaluru FC will be Perez’s first experience playing football in a foreign country. During his stay at Sporting de Gijon over multiple years, the midfielder played over 190 matches with the senior team after making his debut against FC Barcelona B in 2014. He also featured 18 times in La Liga, Spain's top division.
A 10-year-long stint with Sporting de Gijon finally came to an end earlier this year after his contract ran down. Now, Bengaluru FC is set to be his new home where he will look to make an instant impact. He is 29 years old, which means he is at the peak of his abilities.
Type of Player
One of the main objectives for the Blues this season is to secure playoffs qualification and Pablo Perez could play a key role in achieving this target. He is an attacking midfielder that loves to get on the ball. He is also versatile, which suggests he can play multiple roles in the midfield department.
On many occasions, Pablo Perez also played as a forward which could be a boon for Bengaluru FC. He has 12 goals and eight assists for the senior team at Sporting de Gijon.
