Hyderabad FC will be without their skipper Joao Victor for a longer period than previously assumed. Manolo Marquez has revealed that the Brazilian midfielder has undergone surgery on his meniscus (knee surgery) in Brazil. The procedure is expected to keep him out of action for approximately four to five weeks from early assessment.
The news will come as a blow to the Nizams who are the defending champions in the Indian Super League. The talented midfielder has been a key player for them this season, playing the crucial role of the leader in the squad. He has made 10 appearances in the ISL 2022-23 campaign and bagged two goals as well.
His absence will certainly be a setback. However, the club will hope that the surgery is successful and that Joao Victor can make a quick recovery and return to the pitch as soon as possible.
Possible replacements
In the meantime, the club will have to find a way to fill the void left by Joao Victor's absence and will likely turn to one of their other midfielders to step up in his place. Borja Herrera has performed well in the midfield, partnering with Hitesh Sharma. The Spaniard got a goal and an assist in their recent ISL game against NorthEast United.
It will be interesting to see how they adapt to Joao Victor’s absence and how they fare in the coming weeks. Manolo Marquez is adept at adjusting according to the situation and bringing out the best in his players. A player like Sahil Tavora could play a bigger role in the forthcoming matches as well.
Fans of the club will no doubt be disappointed to see one of their key players sidelined, but they will wish Victor a speedy recovery and look forward to his return to action. It is imperative that Victor’s return is not rushed and that he takes enough time to complete his rehabilitation. Knee surgeries can be tricky and the pain can resurface if proper care is not taken.
