The Nizams reach the top of the league table after a convincing win.
Hyderabad FC continued their impressive start to the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season with a 2-0 victory over East Bengal at the G. M. C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium on Friday. Goals from Mohammad Yasir and Javier Siverio were enough to secure the three points for Hyderabad, who leapfrog Mumbai City to reach the top of the league table for now.
The visitors were unable to mount a comeback in the second half despite creating several chances. Hyderabad FC’s goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh was also in fine form as he kept a clean sheet.
Here are the player ratings from Hyderabad FC’s comfortable win over East Bengal in the ISL 2022-23:
Hyderabad FC (By Waseem Zaidi)
Gurmeet Singh (GK) - 8.0
The custodian took his place between the goal in Laxmikant Kattimani’s absence. He made a key save in the first half from a one-on-one situation to ensure HFC went without conceding after the first 45 minutes. Singh made two saves overall and walked away with a deserving clean sheet.
Nikhil Poojary - 7.0
The full-back was solid in both defence and attack. He kept players like Naorem Mahesh Singh and Jerry Lalrinzuala in check. In the attacking third, the defender created two scoring chances for HFC in a brilliant performance.
Odei Onaindia - 7.5
Odei Onaindia played a significant role in ensuring the clean sheet was secured by the end of the match. He was the leader in the defence who kept its shape and resisted East Bengal's attempts to score. The defender made four clearances in the match.
Chinglensana Singh - 7.0
The centre-back was solid and kept the attacking threats at bay. His three clearances were key in keeping a clean sheet for Hyderabad FC. Furthermore, Chinglensana Singh’s chemistry with Odei Onainida is improving with every match.
Akash Mishra - 8.0
Akash Mishra had 61 touches on the ball and also took a shot on goal. The full-back was superb in his defensive display, keeping East Bengal's attacking players like VP Suhair quiet. He made three blocks, and three clearances with a 100% tackle success rate.
Joao Victor - 7.5
Joao Victor provided a good cover to his defence by sitting in front of them and doing the dirty work of breaking East Bengal's attacking moves. He had 61 touches on the ball and won several duels in midfield to keep HFC in control of the possession of the ball.
Hitesh Sharma - 7.5
Hitesh Sharma assisted Mohammad Yasir’s goal after he won the header from a long throw-in which got to the winger who scored from the edge of the penalty area. It was a decent performance from the midfielder until the 72nd minute, when he made way for Sahil Tavora, which is a tradition at HFC.
Mohammad Yasir - 8.5
Mohammad Yasir was the best performer for HFC in this superb win and won the Man of the Match award as well. He scored his third goal of the season, giving HFC the lead with a sensational volley in the top left corner. Interestingly, he also made four successful tackles and showed willingness with his dribbling.
Joel Chianese - 5.5
The creative midfielder for Hyderabad FC only produced one scoring chance for his team. His deliveries from the corner were not impressive and the manager could be persuaded to start Borja Herrera over Chianese in the forthcoming games.
Halicharan Narzary - 6.5
Halicharan Narzary created one scoring chance that was wasted by Borja Herrera. Apart from that, the winger did not contribute as much as he would have liked in the final third. He did deliver five crosses but none of them were converted into goals by his teammates.
Bartholomew Ogbeche - 5.5
It was another disappointing outing for Bartholomew Ogbeche, who only played 59 minutes of the game. He could not score a goal and his performance clearly lacked confidence. The striker was not happy to leave the pitch, coming away from the game without even a shot on goal.
Substitutions
Javier Siverio - 7.5
The Spaniard had a good chance to extend HFC’s lead but was denied by Kamaljit Singh in goal who made a brilliant save from point-blank range. However, he did eventually score, latching on a cross from Herrera late in the game.
Sahil Tavora - 6.0
In yet another appearance from the bench, Tavora showed good energy. He played for 18 minutes, during which the midfielder made two blocks and one clearance.
Borja Herrera - 7.5
The attacker could have scored minutes after coming on from the bench but could not hit the target from close range. However, he made the assist a few minutes later for Siverio’s goal with a fabulous cross from the left flank.
Rohit Danu - N/A
Nim Dorjee - N/A
East Bengal (By Souvari Paul)
Kamaljit Singh - 7.0
It was a mixed day for Kamaljit Singh as he made some good saves but conceded twice. He faced five shots on goal and saved three of them, made three clearances, and caught two balls. He made a brilliant double save to keep his side in the game at one moment.
Ankit Mukherjee - 6.0
Ankit did not look sharp today. Even though he created one chance and put in three crosses, his team’s attackers could not convert any of them. In defence, he made three successful tackles, two clearances, and one successful interception.
Lalchungnunga - 6.5
Lalchungnunga’s day was mixed with 40 touches and 21 passes. He tried his best to provide stability to East Bengal’s defence by making one successful tackle, two clearances, and one successful interception. Yet, his efforts were futile due to the brilliance of Hyderabad’s attacks.
Ivan Gonzalez - 6.0
Gonzalez looked good in East Bengal’s defence. But, he should have done more in the cases in which East Bengal conceded. Barring those, he made two successful tackles, two clearances, and one successful interception.
Jerry Lalrinzuala - 6.5
Jerry did not have a good game against Hyderabad. The left-back could not prevent Hyderabad from scoring. Overall, he made four successful tackles and floated in a cross.
VP Suhair - 7.0
Suhair tried his best to keep East Bengal’s right flank active. But due to a lack of support from his teammates, his efforts were futile. He took one shot, put in a cross, and made numerous runs on the right throughout the game.
Jordan O’Doherty - 5.5
O’Doherty could not live up to his name tonight. He was not lively in creating attacks, as a result of which East Bengal could not create much. Apart from creating one chance, he was not much effective in today’s game.
Alex Lima - 5.0
Alex Lima had 66 touches throughout, the highest for his side. Despite that, he could not create enough chances for his side. He put in three crosses and took one shot, which was off target.
Naorem Mahesh Singh - 4.5
Naorem was not at his best today. With 54 touches and 28 passes, he was able to put in three crosses and create a solitary chance.
Semboi Haokip - 4.0
Semboi, like the rest of East Bengal’s attack, was not good tonight. He lacked sharpness up front and was not able to do much beyond taking a shot that was off target.
Cleiton Silva - 7.0
Cleiton was the best player for East Bengal against Hyderabad FC today. He took three shots, two of which were on target. He also created a chance for his side. Moreover, his work rate tonight was highly commendable.
Substitutes
Charalambous Kyriakou - 5.5
In his comeback match following a facial injury, Kyriakou tried his best to instill life in East Bengal’s midfield. However, his efforts were not enough to bring any substantive change to his side’s game.
Sumeet Passi - 4.5
Passi was on the pitch for around 20 minutes but was not able to contribute in any significant manner for his side.
