Germany’s top-flight league, the Bundesliga, is popular for being extremely entertaining. The clubs in the division play an attractive brand of attacking football and a lot of young players get game time to prove their mettle. Despite FC Bayern Munich’s dominance in the league, it does not fail to deliver competitiveness and top-quality football.

As 2022 reaches its conclusion, it presents a perfect opportunity to look back at players from the Bundesliga that caught the eye this year. These were the players who personified qualities like consistency, tenacity, ambition and more. 

Each of the following players made key contributions to their respective clubs in the league. Here are the top 10 best Bundesliga players of 2022:

Patrik Schick

Patrik Schick was sensational for Bayer Leverkusen last season and finished the campaign with 24 goals with five assists. The forward has two goals in 11 appearances of the 2022/23 season. Having said that, the year 2022 as a whole has been fruitful for the striker.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland played for Borussia Dortmund in the first half of 2022 and scored eight goals in the league, including a hat trick. The forward moved to Manchester City during the summer window but still remains one of the best players of the year in the German Bundesliga.

Mark Flekken

Mark Flekken finished the 2021-22 campaign with 10 clean sheets, joint-top with Manuel Neuer and others. The custodian was one of the best performers for SC Freiburg in the past year and carried his form into the next season. He has eight clean sheets in 15 matches already this season.

Josko Gvardiol

Josko Gvardiol had a brilliant year. It was in 2022 when he truly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in European football. He performed consistently well for RB Leipzig in the league and also helped Croatia to a third-place finish at the FIFA World Cup 2022. In terms of defenders, there were hardly any figures better than him in the past 12 months.

Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski, formerly of FC Bayern Munich, won the golden boot with 35 goals in 34 matches at the end of the 2021-22 season. He signed for FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window, ending his eight-year-long stint with the Bundesliga giants.

Jude Bellingham

It is difficult to believe how good is Jude Bellingham at his age. The 19-year-old has quickly become an integral part of Borussia Dortmund and was a mainstay in the club’s lineup throughout the year. More than his goals and assists, the teenager’s overall contribution overshadows every other player on the pitch.

Moussa Diaby

Moussa Diaby’s goalscoring form was excellent in 2022. He finished the 2021-22 campaign with 13 goals and 12 assists, proving to be an outstanding attacker for Bayer Leverkusen. The winger did not lose any steam heading into the 2022-23 season, delivering six goals and three assists in the first 15 matches. 

Serge Gnabry

Serge Gnabry played a significant role in helping FC Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga 2021-22 title. The winger scored 14 goals and made five assists to finish as the club’s second-highest goalscorer behind Lewandowski. Then, in the 2022-23 campaign, he showed incredible form by scoring eight goals with four assists in merely 15 league outings.

Jamal Musiala

Jamal Musiala was easily the most exciting player to watch in the German Bundesliga in 2022. In the past year, he truly established himself as an indispensable player for FC Bayern Munich, particularly in the latter part of the year. Thanks to his performances in the past year, Musiala’s value has risen to €100.00m. He had only two goals in 2022 when the 2021-22 season finished. However, in the latter part of the year, particularly after the start of the 2022-23 season, Musiala has got nine goals and seven assists in 14 appearances.

Christopher Nkunku is close to leaving the Bundesliga with a move to Chelsea nearing completion. However, when he leaves, the attacking midfielder will depart after delivering a sensational performance in 2022 for RB Leipzig. He won the Player of the Season award at the end of the 2021-22 campaign following 35 goal contributions (20 goals and 15 assists) in 34 matches. Furthermore, he had already managed 12 goals and two assists in 15 appearances during the 2022-23 season.
