The English top-flight season is set to resume om 26 December after the World Cup 2022

While we wait for the Premier League to return on December 26, it's worth reflecting on the early season's standouts in the meanwhile. It was unlikely that Newcastle would finish in the top four, and even less likely that Arsenal would be ahead of Manchester City.

Those two chaotic agencies in the Premier League account for half of the players on this list. Up to this point, these ten players have been the season's best.

10. Rodri

Perhaps underappreciated to the point of admiration, but he continues to fly under the radar, as is his way and what Pep Guardiola undoubtedly wants from his defensive midfielder. He lacks the 'everywhere-ness' of N'Golo Kante in his prime, but that isn't necessary in this Manchester City club.

He's usually located in the center circle, clutching passes around like he's wearing velvet slippers and stealing possession from the opposition just as a break appears to be on the horizon.

9. James Maddison

He achieved his aim of attending the World Cup, but we suspect that playing for even a minute in the World Cup was part of that desire. But, to be honest, his inclusion seemed a long way off at the start of the season, and to have won over Gareth Southgate despite Leicester's terrible start is commendable.

He is creative in tight quarters, a genius over the dead ball, and has the perfect bit of attitude.

8. Bruno Guimaraes

It just took a few minutes for Newcastle fans to fall in love with the Brazilian, and it didn't take long for that love to be returned. Bruno appeared to be too excellent for Newcastle when he initially arrived in January, but that appears to have changed, or at least the difference in quality has shrunk dramatically, not because the midfielder's form has slipped, but because he's been pushing the squad up to his level.

He appears to spend a lot of time on the ball, which is always an indication of a very talented operator, and despite his desire to be progressive whenever feasible, he seldom loses possession. Despite their best efforts, they'll have a difficult time keeping him.

7. Kieran Trippier

While Gareth Southgate's decision to play Kieran Trippier on the right side of the field for England instead of Reece James or Trent Alexander-Arnold may have been met with some skepticism in the past, few could have such doubts given the 32-year-stellar old's start to the current campaign.

Because of Alexander-exceptional Arnold's passing, crossing, and causing of issues for opposing defences, we have become accustomed to the idea that a full-back may be among the greatest in the world while being exceptional at only one area of the game. It's almost incredible how well Trippier can both attack and defend.

6. Martin Odegaard

We won't say Odegaard is a fantastic captain because it's difficult to judge with such a calm on-field presence, but his teammates all appear to appreciate and respect him. And there's no doubt they're doing a lot better with him in charge than with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who, let's face it, notwithstanding his fall-out with Mikel Arteta, was always a weird option.

However, we shall argue that Odegaard is a wonderful footballer, based on evidence from this season in particular, but probably ever since he arrived at Arsenal. It would have been so easy for Odegaard to go the other way as a young genius, but he is clearly a wise man surrounded by people who have his best interests at heart.

He's a very functional creative, which may sound like a backhanded compliment, but it means that you can count on him to create opportunities. He's an Arteta follower and profound thinker, and you can imagine him cradling his tactical framework as he slips off to sleep and perceiving players on the field as bits of code in a computer program.

5. Harry Kane

Harry Kane has scored 12 goals in 15 games, which is the best start to a Premier League season in his career. Kane, who is on pace to score 30 goals in the Premier League this season (a feat accomplished only ten times in the last 30 years), isn't playing second fiddle while Erling Haaland bows his violin until it smokes because the bar has been set so high.

4. Miguel Almiron

There are others in the Newcastle team who benefit from the coaching and management, but Almiron stands out as the most glaring case. Where once opponents could breathe easy when the ball was at Almiron's feet—knowing that, at most, he'd only end up beating one or two men—now, his possession of the ball causes widespread panic.

He's been the punchline to a joke that's become much funnier now that it's backfired on his mockers, but he's scored some beautiful goals this season, and it's hard not to root for someone who's clearly enjoying his football.

3. William Saliba

Although Almiron is the most egregious example, there are others on the Newcastle squad who have improved under the guidance of the coaching staff. When the ball was previously at Almiron's feet, opponents could relax knowing that he would only have to beat one or two men. However, now that Almiron has improved as a player, his possession of the ball causes widespread panic.

It's hard not to root for someone who's clearly enjoying his football, even if he has been the punchline of a joke that has since become much funnier now that it has backfired on his mockers. He has scored some beautiful goals this season.

2. Kevin De Bruyne

You heard it here first, the best central midfielder in Premier League history. Although many have displayed intelligence, what sets them apart is their consistent intelligence. With either foot, he can take a shot and score from wherever on the field. Whether they have the ball or not, he easily outpaces them. Most remarkable, however, is his ridiculously good vision and passing, which allow him to spot openings and open teammates before we in the stands or at home can shout out our observations, and before his teammates realise they are open to receiving passes from him.

He has set up Haaland five times this year, and the two of them make a formidable offensive duo.

1. Erling Haaland

The numbers are clear and that might be discouraging. A certain "je ne sais quoi" is missing. Is there less cause for celebration because of his unbiased greatness? What if we could strip away the mechanics and see his genius through the cracks?

He probably doesn't give a hoot that his presence in the Premier League has prompted a newfound existentialist outlook on the beautiful game. He will have plenty of opportunities to score goals and win while playing for Manchester City.

Haaland is the first Premier League player to have Football365.com's Ridiculous Stats feature updated weekly. least. Haaland leads the Golden Boot race with 18 goals, six ahead of Harry Kane, who has 12 goals.

His 18 goals in his first few months in Our League are more than the career totals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Michael Ballack, Erik Lamela, Alvaro Morata, Jose Antonio Reyes, Michy Batshuayi, Arjen Robben, Joe Allen, Fabio Borini, Demarai Gray, Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi, Robinho, Kai Havertz, Andre Schurrle, Luka Modric, David Platt, Gareth Southgate, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Edinson Cavani, Mousa Dembele, Samuel Eto'o, Dimitri Payet, Ademola Lookman, Harry Magu, and Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs, Manchester United, Liverpool, Fulham, Brentford, Brighton, Leeds, Leicester, and Manchester City are the only Premier League teams outscoring Haaland.
