Top six fastest players to reach 20 Premier League goals
The English top flight is regarded as one of the toughest league in the world
Premier League is regarded as one of the toughest leagues in the world and scoring goals in the English top flight is another difficult task. Haaland sets another record in his Premier League season; the Norwegian has been on a tear since joining Manchester City. After breaking multiple records, the 22-year-old accomplished another milestone when Manchester City defeated Leeds United 3-1, with Haaland scoring a brace and becoming the Premier League's fastest player to reach 20 goals.
Although the record was set by my Premier League players, Philip was the current holder of the record until Haaland broke it yesterday, and with this, we take a look at the players who scored 20 Premier League goals in the fewest matches.
6. Tony Yeboah – 26
One of Leeds United's most renowned players is recognized as the club's record settler. He was a cult figure who set multiple records and created a name for himself at Leeds United. Yeboah joined the club in 1995 and went on to score 32 goals in 66 appearances for the Premier League giants. He also set the record for the quickest Premier League goals, scoring 20 in just 26 games for Leeds United.
5. Diego Costa – 26 games
Chelsea were in a need of a striker when Demba Ba left as they signed Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid. His arrival brought Chelsea to life, as he scored a multitude of goals and had a successful stint at the club, Costa made over 120 appearances for the club, collecting 59 goals for the Blues and winning two Premier League titles. Costa was a proficient player after an injury to Drogba as he netted the fastest 20 goals in 26 games in the 2016-17 season, making him one of the fastest players to achieve it.
4. Rudd van Nistelrooy – 26 games
The Dutchman joined Manchester United for a British record sum of £19 million and enjoyed the most successful stints at the club, winning every available trophy and being part of a formidable group that dominated the Premier League. During his time at United, he scored 150 goals in just 219 appearances, and he was one of only a handful of players to record the quickest 20 Premier League goals in 26 matches. After falling out with the club he left for Real Madrid, in search of the Champions League title.
3. Andrew Cole – 26 games
The Premier League star played for a number of top-flight teams and scored innumerable goals, including 187 in Premier League history, making him the fourth-highest striker in league history. He also holds the mark for the most top-flight goals (42 in 34 games), the quickest to score 50 goals in 65 games, and the top-scorer and assists provider in the same season in 1993-94.
Many people forget how prolific Andrew Cole was in front of goal, but he also holds the record for the quickest goalscorer in league history, with 20 goals in 26 games.
2. Kevin Phillips – 21 games
Philips established the record for the quickest 20 Premier League goals in 21 games in 1999 while playing for Sunderland, which was held until 2022 only after being surpassed by Norwegian Erling Haaland. Philips has played for a handful of Premier League clubs, but his most productive career came with Sunderland, where he scored 130 goals in 235 games.
1. Erling Haaland – 14 games
Haaland has been on a goal-scoring streak, and he is only three goals away from reaching last season's Premier League top-scorer goal tally after scoring 20 goals in 14 Premier League games for Manchester City. Since wearing City's jersey, the 22-year-old has been a productive player who shows no signs of slacking off. He is currently the quickest player in Premier League history to reach 20 Premier League goals in just 14 matches, smashing Kevin Philips' record of 21 matches.
