Lionel Messi lead his side to the FIFA World Cup 2022 triumph
Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022 for the third time, will return to action in March, while club football will resume in a few days.
Lionel Messi successfully lifted the World Cup title after a grueling contest that will go down in sporting history as one of the most turbulent games which had fans on edge until the penalty shootout.
And everything came down to one man who has been yearning to complete his football career with the one prize that has eluded him despite coming near in the 2014 World Cup final.
But this time he believed he could lift, and he succeeded, forging football history and gifting his fans an experience to recall for the rest of their existence.
Lionel Messi was widely assumed to be playing his final World Cup match against France when he announced, "FIFA World Cup 2022 final will be my last World Cup match," but he immediately rejected his decision, clarifying that he will continue to play for Argentina until he retires.
On Argentina's route to victory, Messi set multiple records, becoming the first player in World Cup history to score in the round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final, and final.
He also won the tournament's Golden Ball, making him the first player to achieve this feat twice, first in the 2014 World Cup and now lately.
Messi will join PSG at the end of the month after celebrating with fans in Argentina. While PSG will resume club football against Strasbourg on December 28th.
When will Argentina return to action?
Since the World Cup is over, we may expect the next international break to be in March, when Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024 qualifications will take place. Although the Copa America qualifiers have not yet announced a date for their qualifier match, Euro 2024 qualifiers will begin on March 20th.
