A player from Bangladesh has never played in Argentina.

Two Bangladesh players Topu Barman and Mahmud Hasan Kiron, who currently represent Bashundhara Kings have received offers to play for Sol de Mayo club in Argentina. If the deal gets finalized, then they will become the first set of Bangladeshi players to play in a South American club. Sol de Mayo participates in the third-tier league of Argentina and has been an active part of the football ecosystem for the past 100 years.

“They started communicating since the World Cup (Qatar 2022). I got the offer letter recently but the problem is timing,” Barman told Dhaka Tribune last Tuesday. “If the deal materializes then it will be a great experience for me as I can learn more about their football culture but as long as I have a contract, I have to consider other things as well. The offer also sounds good financially as there is an opportunity to earn around $12,000 per month.”

Both players have only a week to inform their decision to the Argentine club as they are contracted with the Kings until the end of the ongoing season. The domestic fixtures conclude by June or July in Bangladesh whereas the third-tier league in Argentina begins in March.

About Topu Barman

Topu Barman, 28, has played in several top clubs like Dhaka Abahani Limited and Mohammedan SC (Dhaka). Barman has represented Bangladesh 45 times since 2013 and has scored 13 goals. Previously, the defender had also received offers from ISL (NorthEast United FC) and a Qatari second division club.

Bashundhara Kings currently occupy the top spot with 15 points, winning all five encounters in the Bangladesh Premier League. The club won the league in the previous two seasons, which enabled them to qualify for the AFC Cup group stages. In 2022, they played two matches against Indian clubs. They first lost to ATK Mohun Bagan (0-4) and defeated Gokulam Kerala (2-1).
