He was crucial in the rise of the Blues as one of the most sophisticated football clubs in the country.
Bengaluru FC have announced that Mandar Tamhane has stepped down from his position as the CEO of the club. He had been associated with the Indian Super League (ISL) outfit since its inception back in 2013. Back then, the club played in the I-League and later made the transition to the ISL where it plays today.
“I’d like to thank Mandar for his immense contribution to Bengaluru Football Club over the years. From playing his part in the seven trophies we’ve won over ten seasons, to scouting and bringing players to the club who have then gone on to represent the country, Mandar’s efforts at Bengaluru FC cannot be quantified,” Parth Jindal, the owner and Director of Bengaluru FC, said while showing gratitude for everything Tamhane did for the club.
Immense contribution
Mandar Tamhane was the brains behind Bengaluru FC’s rise in recent years. The past decade was extremely successful for the club where it won major trophies like the I-League, the Indian Super League, the Durand Cup and more.
Speaking after his decision to step down as CEO of the club, Mandar Tamhane said, “I’ve had a more than special ten-year run at this wonderful football club, and I feel the time is right for both Bengaluru FC and me to move in a different direction. Together, we’ve achieved so much for the club, and I would like to believe we have been able to have an impact on Indian football as a whole. I leave with nothing but fond memories and relationships that I have forged for life.”
“I would like to thank Parth for giving me the opportunity to lead this club, the players and staff over the years who have all contributed to my success, and the special fans of this football club who never cease to amaze me. I wish the club nothing but the best, and I am sure that it will return to its glory days sooner than later.” he further added.
Bengaluru FC are currently struggling to stay alive in the race for playoffs in the 2022-23 season of the Indian Super League. Simon Grayson, the head coach, has a huge task ahead of him. He must guide the club to the playoffs after the Blues failed to qualify in the past two seasons. As it stands, BFC are sitting in the eighth position with 13 points from a similar number of matches.
