It was a close contest between both teams that had several notable performances.
Chennaiyin FC and ATK Mohun Bagan played a 0-0 draw in their recent Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 fixture. There were no goals as neither team gave the other any room to breathe at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
The custodian at both ends walked away with a deserved clean sheet. Both outfits struggled for rhythm in the attacking third and settled for a point by the final whistle. The game had several notable individual performances but unfortunately no goals.
Here are the player ratings from CFC’s goalless draw with ATKMB in the ISL:
Chennaiyin FC (by Waseem Zaidi)
Samik Mitra (GK) - 8.5
Samik Mitra was outstanding for Chennaiyin FC and earned a well-deserved clean sheet. He made six saves during the game that were crucial in helping the hosts secure a point.
Fallou Diagne - 6.5
Fallou Diagne was lucky to come away from the game without receiving two yellow cards. The centre-back, however, kept a close watch on ATKMB strikers and helped his team earn a clean sheet.
Vafa Hakhamaneshi - 7.0
Vafa Hakhamaneshi was superb for CFC in the backline. The tall centre-back made three clearances, not giving any ATKMB forward any room to breathe in the final third.
Ajith Kumar - 7.5
Ajith Kumar’s clash with Liston Colaco was extremely entertaining to watch. His pace and willingness to move forward were noteworthy during the game.
Aakash Sangwan - 7.5
Aakash Sangwan’s presence was immense on CFC’s left flank. The full-back did his defensive duties well, making two clearances, one interception and one block during the game.
Ninthoinganba Meetei - 6.5
Ninthoi was electric down the flanks and caused several issues to ATKMB's defence throughout the game. He created one scoring chance and also took a shot that hit the side netting unfortunately.
Anirudh Thapa - 6.5
Anirudh Thapa played 72 minutes of the game as he worked towards becoming fully fit. The skipper had a shot on target in the first half and also created two scoring chances for his team. His energy on and off the ball was noteworthy.
Julius Duker - 8.5
Julius Duker was immense for Chennaiyin FC and won the Hero of the Match award for his efforts. The midfielder provided cover to the defence, making two interceptions and two successful tackles. He had 65 touches on the ball, one shot on target and created two scoring chances in a fabulous performance.
Y. Jiteshwor Singh - 6.5
Jiteshwor Singh was excellent for Chennaiyin FC. The box-to-box midfielder worked extremely hard to reclaim the ball for his team by winning ground duels.
Vincy Barretto - 7.0
Vincy Barretto’s pace was tough to deal with for the opposition defenders but there was a lack of quality in his execution in the final third. Despite getting four shots on target, he was not able to find the back of the net.
Petar Sliskovic - 6.0
It was not a fruitful night for Petar Sliskovic who was marked tightly by ATKMB's defence. Despite a lack of quality service inside the box, the forward had three shooting attempts before making way for Kwame Karikari.
Substitution
Edwin Vanspaul - 7.0
Edwin Vanspaul was brought on to inject more energy into the midfield. He almost made an instant impact with a long-range curling effort that pushed Vishal Kaith in making a save.
Prasanth K. - 5.5
Prasanth came on as a substitute in order to affect the game with his speed. He only had five touches on the ball in an 18-minute-long cameo.
Kwame Karikari - 5.5
Kwame Karikari was unable to repeat his performance from the reverse fixture and failed to find the winner for CFC after coming on as a late sub.
ATK Mohun Bagan (by Uttiyo Sarkar)
Vishal Kaith – 9.0
The ex-Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper was really sharp against his former side. Taunted by his former fans and troubled with menacing shots, but made 7 saves! Made one exquisite finger-tip save to deny Vincy late on, summing up his fantastic performance.
Asish Rai – 6.5
Rai had to work double-time to deal with the energetic Vincy. Had a topsy-turvy game, getting bypassed a few times but also popped up with key challenges. Won 1/8 tackles, but made two key blocks as well as two clearances.
Pritam Kotal – 7.0
Kotal seemed a bit ruffled after getting a knock early on, but recovered relatively well dealing with Sliskovic. Made a potential goal-saving block in the second half.
Brendan Hamill – 6.0
Hamill was involved in two huge scoring chances, seeing one blocked and missing a sitter. Made 5 clearances and 4 interceptions, but was occasionally caught out of position against Chennaiyin’s fast-paced attacks.
Subhashish Bose – 7.6
Bose was arguably ATKMB’s most hard-working defender. Dealt well with Chennaiyin’s quick attacks and put in key challenges to thwart them. Made 3 tackles, 3 blocks and 4 clearances in a solid defensive effort.
Lalthathanga Khawlhring – 5.0
Moved the ball around nicely, but failed to protect his backline from trouble.
Carl McHugh – 4.5
McHugh struggled against Chennaiyin’s quick-linking moves. Executed zero tackles from five attempts and saw the Chennaiyin midfielders bypass him too easily on multiple occasions.
Hugo Boumous – 6.5
Boumous worked hard to get things done in the attack and created some big chances with delightful passes. Tried a few swipes at goal himself, but lacked that special something with his shots.
Manvir Singh – 5.0
Manvir came back from an injury that kept him sidelined for six games. Looked visibly lacking in match fitness and rusty in the final third.
Liston Colaco – 6.0
Colaco had a frustrating first half, but showed more promise after the break. Had a huge chance denied with brilliant goalkeeping and troubled Ajithkumar with his clever movement.
Dimitri Petratos – 7.0
Petratos was again forced to play much deeper to create chances, which he did really well. He dragged defenders out of positions to create three promising chances, troubling the hosts with his set-pieces too, but nothing got converted.
Subs
Lenny Rodrigues – 6.0
Moved the ball around well after coming on.
Federico Gallego – 5.0
Failed to really do much, only completing one pass.
Kiyan Nassiri – 5.0
Ineffective as a substitute again.
Slavko Damjanovic – N/R
Got a late cameo against his former side and helped see off some danger in added time.
Md Fardin Molla – N/R
Unable to do much late on.
