NorthEast United have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Joseba Beitia from Rajasthan United, Khel Now can confirm. "NorthEast United have paid an undisclosed amount to bring in the player for the remaining part of the Indian Super League (ISL) season", a source close to the development informed Khel Now.
The midfielder has plied his trade for Rajasthan United in the first part of this ongoing I-League season. The management is fully fledged to bring in the midfield maestro to change the fortune of NorthEast United.
About the Player
Born on September 29, 1990, in Guipuzcoa, Spain, Beitia began his career with Real Sociedad. He progressed through the ranks of Los Txuri-Urdin and featured for the Real Sociedad B team alongside club star Asier Illarramendi.
Joseba Beitia's journey in India started off bright as the Spanish midfielder bagged his first I-League title with Mohun Bagan in 2019. The side under Kibu Vicuna won the I-League with four games in hand. He moved to RoundGlass Punjab FC in 2020. In the current I-League season, he was playing a crucial role for Rajasthan United.
NorthEast United in ISL 2022-23
NorthEast United are one of the most struggling teams in ISL 2022-23 with just four points from 15 matches. They are going through a rough phase and the worst-ever in their history. The thrash performance in the league also forced the management to sack their former tactician Marco Balbul from his position.
Things however, looked to brighten up lightly after the appointment of Vincenzo Alberto Annese to the helm. They achieved their first win of this season against ATK Mohun Bagan. The recent 2-2 draw against FC Goa is a positive sign from the team which is trying to finish this season on a good note. The northeastern club has recently brought in Alex Saji on a loan deal from Hyderabad FC.
