The right-back will add options to Josep Gombau's side.

Tankadhar Bag has signed for Odisha FC, Khel Now can confirm. A source close to the development informed Khel Now, " The defender has signed a multi-year deal with Odisha FC." Earlier, reports linked the player with East Bengal, but it is Odisha FC for whom Bag will be plying his trade!

With the addition of Tankadhar Bag, Odisha, who have been playing centre-back Narender Gahlot as a right-back, will have a young player menacing down the flanks. However, since he is just 19 years old, it is questionable if tactician Josep Gombau will straightaway give him a place in the Odisha FC starting line-up.

About the player

Hailing from Odisha’s (state) football academy Sports Hostel Odisha, Tankadhar Bag plays as a right-back. Apart from his natural position, the defender is also capable to handling centre-back duties. In the 2019-20 season, Bag joined the Indian Arrows from the Odisha-based academy. In 2020, he was promoted to the senior Indian Arrows side and has played scintillating football till then. The past year he also featured for the national team in the SAFF U-20 Championship and even scored a goal in India’s 8-0 triumph over Nepal.

Odisha FC's season till now

The Juggernauts are having their best season perhaps, ever since their inception. Compared to the last two seasons, Odisha are in a better place and have delivered well under head coach Josep Gombau. They are currently in the fifth position of the ISL 2022-23 points table and have collected 22 points in 14 games. A table-top finish looks perhaps difficult with the way Mumbai City are trading. But nonetheless, the Juggernauts will go all guns blazing to perform their bit.

The club's first signing of the January transfer window is Tankadhar Bag. Hopefully, Josep Gombau will look to add more reinforcements in his side in order to achieve their ambition this season.

Odisha FC last played against Bengaluru FC and lost the game 3-1. They will be facing ATK Mohun Bagan in their next encounter, which is on 28th January.
