Five midfielders Manchester United should consider after Eriksen’s injury on January 2023 deadline day
The Danish midfielder suffered an injury against West Brom
Manchester United under their new boss, Erik ten Hag are in stellar form. They are becoming more and more dominant on the field are truly showing off their talent. Erik ten Hag has revolutionised the club which was suffering for the past years. It is still early to comment on titles but fans are getting hope of revival of their club. Since, club legend Alex Ferguson left, United has failed to win the Premier League and the most humiliating time came last year because of their poor performance and the whole Ronaldo saga. But now, it seems that Erik ten Hag has tightened his grip over the club and is looking to bring some trophies home.
Erik ten Hag, like every other manager, has brought in new players. Last summer, Manchester united pulled some big moves by bringing in Eriksen, Casemiro, Martinez and Anthony. Also, in January, Erik ten Hag added the Dutch striker Weghorst to his list of players on loan.
Erik ten Hag would be looking to add some more players to his squad before the January transfer window closes. Eriksen has also, reportedly, picked up an ankle injury which will keep him out for four weeks possibly.
Manchester United’s potential targets
Hannibal Mejbri
Hannibal is currently playing for Birmingham City, loaned from Manchester United. He may be on his way back to Old Trafford as Eriksen’s replacement as he is facing an ankle injury. Finally, the 20-year-old Tunisian player joined the English side Birmingham on a loan move for the 2022-23 season and has impressed. Manchester United brought him in from Monaco in back in 2019.
Ander Herrera
Ander plays in the Spanish LaLiga for Athletic Bilbao, on loan from the French giants Paris St. Germain. Manchester United is his former club. He joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2014 and was part of the team till 2019, when he went to Paris St. Germain. He became one of the most important players of the Manchester United squad back then. Considering a replacement for Eriksen, the former Red Devil Herrera can come back to old Trafford as a loanee.
Mohammed Kudus
The 22 years old Ghanaian international currently plays for Ajax in the Eredivisie. He is considered a versatile player who is able to play in both midfield and attack. His versatility is perfect for Manchester United. Manchester United fans are waiting for Kudus’ arrival at Old Trafford this January. Also, the 22 years old will himself be looking to join his former teammates Antony and Martinez along with his former coach Erik ten Hag in Manchester United. Manchester United are all up for this midfielder but whether it will be a permanent move or a loan term only time will tell, as there are more clubs interested in signing him.
Youri Tielemans
Tielemans, the 25 years old Belgian midfielder, is also on the radars of Manchester United. The midfielder currently plays for the Premier League side Leicester City. He has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool also. It is reported that Leicester wants to sell the midfielder as quickly as possible because his contract ends at the end of the season. Manchester United are looking to seal the deal in time as the deadline day is approaching. Leicester City are reportedly asking for a big fee which is an issue for the Manchester based club.
Ryan Gravenberch
The 20-year-old Dutch international is linked with an Old Trafford move. This move could re-unite him with his former boss Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. He currently plays for the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Gravenberch had earlier also been linked to a Premier League move but it didn’t happen. With the midfielder Eriksen injured, the transfer possibility has again been brought to light. It is also reported that the transfer is unlikely as Bayern are unwilling to let the 20-year-old midfielder leave. Finally, his transfer in the future to Old Trafford could possibly be a loan move.
