Mumbai, Bengaluru players dominate ISL 2022-23 Team of the Week for GW20

Several individuals raised their performance levels to help their respective teams.

The Indian Super League (ISL 2022-23 season) is heading towards the conclusion of its league phase. The fixtures in the past week saw Mumbai City FC become ISL Shield winners, claiming the crown in style. Apart from the glorious Islanders and their dominance, there were plenty other entertaining clashes across the league.

With the race of the playoffs qualification intensifying, the players took it upon themselves to help their team win points. As a result, the ISL fans saw several memorable individual performances in the matches across gameweek 20 in the league.

On that note, here is a look at the players that caught the eye and who made Khel Now’s Team of the Week for ISL 2022-23 gameweek 20.

Goalkeeper: Vishal Kaith (ATK Mohun Bagan)

Vishal Kaith was sensational for ATK Mohun Bagan against Jamshedpur FC. He made seven saves during the match and was a key player for Juan Ferrando. 

Right-back: Laldinliana Renthlei (Jamshedpur FC)

Laldinliana Renthlei delivered one of his best performances of the season when Jamshedpur FC played against ATK Mohun Bagan. In a goalless draw, the full-back made five tackles, seven clearances and a whopping eight blocks to keep the Mariners at bay.

Centre-back: Alan Costa (Bengaluru FC)

Alan Costa was absolutely solid in his performance against Kerala Blasters FC. He was strong in both ground and aerial duels, helping his team secure a clean sheet. He made five interceptions and blocked two attempts on goal.

Centre-back: Sandesh Jhingan (Bengaluru FC)

Sandesh Jhingan’s consistency was on display yet again as Bengaluru FC recorded an important 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters FC. Playing against his former side, the defender made seven clearances and six interceptions.

Left-back: Aakash Sangwan (Chennaiyin FC)

Aakash Sangwan was impressive yet again as Chennaiyin FC recorded a 2-0 win over East Bengal FC. The full-back was adventurous and made several attacking runs. In the end, he created two big chances and delivered four crosses for his team.

Central midfielder: Anirudh Thapa (Chennaiyin FC)

Anirudh Thapa won the Man of the Match award when Chennaiyin FC beat East Bengal 2-0. The midfielder was everywhere on the pitch. He finished the game with one assist, created two chances and made two interceptions.

Central midfielder: Rohit Kumar (Bengaluru FC)

Rohit Kumar was the winner of the Man of the Match award in Bengaluru FC’s 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters FC. The midfielder was extremely composed in possession of the ball, moved it well and regained possession quickly. He had four interceptions in the match and also made three crucial blocks.

Attacking midfielder: Greg Stewart (Mumbai City FC) 

Greg Stewart showed his quality in free-kick situations by scoring two direct free-kicks against FC Goa. It was hardly a surprise when the attacking midfielder won the Man of the Match award in the 5-3 win against the Gaurs.

Right winger: Lallianzuala Chhangte (Mumbai City FC)

Lallianzuala Chhangte was in exquisite form yet again for Mumbai City FC. The winger made the assist for Jorge Diaz’s goal and scored from the penalty spot. No matter the opposition, Chhhangte is demolishing defences in every ISL 2022-23 fixture.

Left winger: Isak Vanlalruatfela (Odisha FC)

Isak Vanlalruatfela continued to impress fans and hierarchy at Odisha FC. The winger opened the scoring in the game and also contributed with an assist. His presence was crucial in helping OFC beat HFC in a tight contest.

Striker: Jorge Pereyra Diaz (Mumbai City FC)

Jorge Diaz cannot stop scoring and Mumbai City FC wouldn't want him to. The striker scored yet again in a 5-3 win over FC Goa to take his tally to 11 goals this season. He also created one chance for his teammates.
