On Thursday night, a stranded The Old Lady host the high-flying BiancoCelesti at the Allianz Stadium for a Quarter final clash in Coppa Italia.

Juventus find themselves in unfamiliar doldrums after their season went haywire in a short span of time. Sitting at 13th in the table with just 23 pints on board, they find themselves 14 points behind 6th place Roma and a Champions League spot is surely out of sight for them now. Still recovering from their points deduction by the Italian Football Federation due to club’s capital gain violations, they were condemned to defeat by newly promoted Monza yet again this season by 2-0 in their last run out in Serie A.

Although they crossed the first hurdle of the Coppa Italia by beating Monza 2-1, their only chances of silverware remain this trophy as they will try and salvage something out of their ventures in Europa League too. A  fixture against Inter Milan awaits in the semi finals who defeated them last time in the final to grab the Coppa Italia in 2022.

Former Juventus Manager Maurizio Sarri has loved life at Lazio and has certainly brought them back up the ranks. A contender for the top four spot, they have been unbeaten in their last four games in the Serie A and were just denied a possible victory after a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina saw both these teams share the spoils in their last run out in the Serie A. They netted 4 past Milan which was a massive booster for Sarri and his men on Matchday 19. As for Coppa Italia, they booked a place in the Quarter finals by defeating Bologna 1-0 courtesy of a goal from the ever reliant Felipe Anderson. A tie against CFR Cluj awaits for them in the Conference League but they will aim to get this piece of silverware for the 7th time in their history.

Player to watch

Juventus

Moise Kean

Regarded as one of Italian football's most promising prospects, Kean is a quick, tenacious, and physically strong forward, with good technical skills and an accurate shot. He has already six times for the Old Lady this season out of 24 appearances.

Lazio

Sergej Milinkovic Savic

Sergej Milinkovic Savic is a versatile central midfield player and is capable of playing in several roles, including as a trequartista, or in a holding role, although he is usually deployed as a central midfielder, in the mezzala role. A deep-lying midfielder by trait, he already has 6 goals and 8 assists in his name acroos all competitions for the BiancoCelesti.

Match facts

  • Juventus have won this trophy for a record 14 times while Lazio are the holders of this trophy for 6 times.
  • The last time these two sides met in November, Juventus came out on top and defeated their capital opponents by 3-0 with a brace from Moise Kean.
  • Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic have both managed seven goal contributions in ten league starts for Juventus while Mattia Zaccagni has eight goals in the league for Lazio.

Injury and team news

Though the return of Paul Pogba and Dusan Vlahovic has certainly improved their squad strength, it is very well likely that Allegri will be giving a nod to his youngsters such as Nicolo Fagioli and Matias Soule. Regular Cup goalkeeper Mattia Perin is expected to start in goal while Arkadiusz Milik has been ruled out for the Old Lady due a thigh injury until March. Weston Mckennie has joined Premier League side Leeds United on loan and Danilo is expected to start ahead of Mattias De Sciglio who is returning from a thigh injury and is expected to be on the bench.

There are not much concerns as far as injuries go for the BiancoCelesti with a returning Ciro Immobile only boosting their squad after he made an appearance from the bench against Fiorentina. Sergej-Milinkovic Savic has been in an impressive form this season and will be leading their midfield which might prove to be a crucial factor in this game. Manuel Lazzari is set to make a comeback in the starting XI at right back position while the front three is set to be the same with the pairing of Pedro, Zaccagni and Anderson.

Draws: 7

Lazio: 7

Predicted lineup

Juventus predicted lineup (3-5-2):

Perin; Danilo, Bremer, Sandro; De Sciglio, Fagioli, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Di Maria; Kean

Lazio predicted lineup (4-3-3):

Provedel; Lazzari, Patric, Romagnoli, Marusic; Milinkovic-Savic, Cataldi, Vecino; Pedro, Anderson, Zaccagni

Prediction

Juventus’ form in recent weeks has been under serious questions and the role of Allegri is now under serious jeopardy. The Old Lady will have to put a much refurbished performance as their travelling opponents have been quite outrageous on the road. Though the tactics of both the managers will come in very handy. We expect Juventus to have a slight advantage over their opponents given the added benefit of home conditions.

Prediction:  Juventus 2-1 Lazio.
