Varane has decided to retire from football.
The French centre-back is widely considered one of the best defenders of his time. He is known for his tough defending skills which come with pace, which is extremely important nowadays. Raphael Varane is known for his time at the Spanish club Real Madrid where he won all the big Domestic as well as European trophies.
Despite winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his three seasons with United, Varane’s stint at Old Trafford was cut short by injuries.
Following his three years at the club, United decided not to extend his contract and the centre-back left the club. Varane later joined Serie A club Como but before even making his debut the former Madrid star suffered a knee injury and finally decided to quit football at the age of 31.
He wrote in an Instagram post: “They say all good things must come to an end. In my career I have taken on many challenges, rose to occasion after occasion, almost all of it was supposed to be impossible. “I hold myself to the highest standard, I want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game. It takes a big dose of courage to listen to your heart and your instincts.”
Raphael Varane also won the World Cup with France in 2018 in Russia. At the age of 29, Varane had announced his retirement from the French National squad because of the ‘Overload’ of work due to such tight schedules.
