NorthEast United set to sign Tajikistan defender Alisher Kholmurodov for Super Cup 2023

The centre-back can be of immense help to the Highlanders with his versatility and ability to play in several positions.

NorthEast United FC are set to sign Tajikistan defender Alisher Kholmurodov on a short-term deal, Khel Now can confirm. The 26-year-old Centre-back previously turned out for Tajikistan Higher League team FK Fayzkand Vose.

"Alisher Kholmurodov is close to signing a short period deal with NorthEast United FC. If the deal goes through, he'll feature for the Highlanders in the upcoming Hero Super Cup."

About the Player

Born on March 2, 1997, in Tajikistan, Alisher started his youth career with Regar-Tadaz Tursunzoda of the Tajik League.

In 2021, Alisher signed a professional contract with FK Kuktosh. He featured in a total of 10 matches for FK Kuktosh. In his period at FK Kuktosh, Alisher earned 2 yellow cards and a red card in the league.

On August 2, 2021, Alisher moved to FС Dushanbe as a free agent. He featured in 10 matches for FC Dushanbe. On January 1, 2022, he shifted his base to FK Fayzkand Vose. He played a total of 18 matches and scored a goal as well for FK Fayzkand Vose.

Alisher Kholmurodov is a versatile player who can handle multiple positions in the field. Apart from being a natural Centre-Back, Alisher has expertise in playing the roles of Central Defensive midfielder and Left-Back as well.

NorthEast United in ISL 2022-23

The Highlanders had a bitter experience in the recently concluded Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season. They had a terrible start to the season with a series of winless streaks under former Head Coach Marco Balbul.

In mid-season, the NorthEast management brought in Italian manager Vincenzo Alberto Annese to change the fortune of the club. Although he did make a little impact to alter the performance of the team, he still couldn't lift them up in the points table. At the end of the season, the team finished last in the table with just 5 points from 20 league games.
