Kerala Blasters skipper Adrian Luna to miss Super Cup

The midfielder played a vital role in the club's recent ISL campaign.

Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters FC on Wednesday announced that their midfield stalwart Adrian Luna will not be able to take part in the upcoming Super Cup due to personal reasons. Kerala Blasters will miss the service of the Tuskers captain in the upcoming Super Cup.  This news was confirmed by an official club statement from Kerala Blasters, on Wednesday.

Adrian Luna's performance this season

The Uruguayan midfielder played a crucial role to help the Blasters qualify for the playoffs during the ISL 2022-23 season. During this season, Adrian Luna registered four goals and six assists to his name in 20 appearances. This is the first time ever that the team qualified for the playoffs in consecutive seasons.

The runners-up of the 2021-22 season, Kerala Blasters displayed an attractive and entertaining brand of football in the recently concluded season, under the tutelage of  Ivan Vukomanovic. The side finished fifth in the league table with 31 points.

The Super Cup is back!

The Super Cup is all set to kick off from 8th April. In this tournament, the winner will get a chance to qualify for the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stage. The winning team of the Super Cup will play against I-league champions (of last season) Gokulam Kerala FC and the winning team will get a direct entry in the AFC Cup group stage. But if the I-league champions win the Super Cup, then they will be automatically qualified for the group stages of the AFC Cup 2023-24.

Kerala Blasters will face Bengaluru FC, RoundGlass Punjab FC and the winning team of the Qualifer-1 from Group-A in the Super Cup.
