Former Arsenal player and German international Mesut Ozil took to social media to announce his retirement from professional football. “After thoughtful consideration, I’m announcing my immediate retirement from professional football,” the 34-year-old wrote in his statement, expressing gratitude for the support and acknowledging the privilege of playing as a professional for almost 17 years.
Mesut Ozil is remembered as a player with an impeccable vision. He made plenty of assists for his teammates, often from tight situations. He won plenty of trophies during his illustrious career. Also, he was open to making a statement and raising his voice in the context of social issues. The former German international was of Turkish descent and very humble, both as a player and a person.
He also gave credit to his close ones in the message announcing his retirement. “Special thanks must go to my family members and my close friends. They have been a part of my journey from day one and have given me so much love and support, through the good times and the bad.” the statement read.
