On Friday night, Molineux will be the host for a mouth-watering clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and The Lillywhites.

Wolves put on an impressive performance against Liverpool in their recent trip to Anfield but a set-piece goal by Van Dijk and a blistering counterattack were capped off by Mohammad Salah to hand them a 2-0 defeat. Despite finding some form in the league, they are still in the relegation mixture with 24 points. After 25 games and they are just three points above 18th-placed Everton. Wolves also haven’t won any of their last six home games against Tottenham since a 1-0 victory in February 2010.

Conte’s men were kicked out of the FA Cup yet again in the Round of 16 despite trying to reach the Quarterfinals for the fifth season in a row now. Although their league form has been decent, Championship side Sheffield United defeated them by a solitary goal to hand them a shocking upset in the FA Cup. Following their 1-0 win against Wolves in August, Tottenham are looking to complete the Premier League double over Wolves for just the second time, previously doing so in the 2003-04 campaign.

Kick-off:

Saturday, 4-03-2023, 3:00 pm (GMT)

Saturday, 4-03-2023, 08:30 pm (GMT)

Wolves form (all competition): L-D-L-W-W

Tottenham Hotspur form (all competition): L-W-W-L-L

Player to watch

Wolves: Raul Jimenez

A forward, Jimenez is known for his physical presence in the penalty area, as well as his ability to hold up play and his ability in the air, which allows him to headlong passes on or bring the ball down and bring others into play. Though he has not opened his scoring chart in the Premier League this season, we might as well see him score the first of the season against Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Kane

Harry Kane is the prototypical number 9, an old-fashioned, physically imposing striker who is capable of holding the ball up with his back to the goal and getting into goal-scoring areas. An immaculate presence in the box, he has 18 goals and 2 assists in his name in this edition of the Premier League.

Match facts

  • Wolves have won two of their last three Premier League home games, as many as in their previous 12 in Molineux (D3, L7). They did lose their last game against Bournemouth by 1-0, however.
  • After winning seven consecutive Premier League matches in 3 pm Saturday games between 2019 and 2022, Tottenham lost their last such match 4-1 at Leicester City last month.
  • Of all the fixtures to have been played at least 15 times in the Premier League history, only Leicester against Manchester City (57%) has been won by the away side a higher share of the time than Tottenham vs Wolves (53% - nine away wins in 17 meetings).

Injury and team news

Matheus Cunha missed the trip to Anfield due to an ankle injury and he is yet to return to action for quite a time now. He-Chan Hwang is currently being assessed for his thigh injury but it is very likely that Lopetegui will not be risking him. Sasa Kalajdzic and Francesco Oliveira are both out due to knee injuries with the former one most probable to make a return to starting lineup soon.

Ryan Sessegnon has been out for quite a while now with a thigh injury for Antonio Conte. Rodrigo Bentancur is also sidelined for the season after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Hugo Lloris, Yves Bissouma and Emerson are all out with respective knee injuries and Conte will have to bank on his January signings in the name of Pedro Porro and Danjuma to provide the goods.

Head-to-Head stats

Predicted lineup

Wolves predicted lineup (4-2-3-1):

J. Sa; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, H. Bueno; R. Neves, Lemina; Sarabia, Moutinho, M. Nunes; R. Jimenez

Prediction

Wolves showed a few promising signs since the turn of the calendar year but it feels like the impending doom is yet again set in on Molineux. With Tottenham picking up the pace in the race for the top 4 spots in the Premier League, it will take more than just a resurgent performance by Lopetegui’s men to cause an upset. We are predicting it to be an easy affair for the team from London.

Prediction:  Wolves 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur
