Serie A 2022-23: AS Roma vs Sampdoria: Predicted lineup, injury news, head-to-head, telecast
The Giallorossi look to claim the top four against Blucherchiati on Sunday.
Roma must improve their ill-discipline when they meet relegation candidates Sampdoria on Sunday at Stadio Olimpico as Serie A returns. The Giallorossi are without a win in their last three games in all competitions, whilst the Blucerchiati head into this one on the back of a 3-1 win over Verona.
A crucial victory at home to Verona in Sampdoria’s last match sees them just about in with a chance of survival. However, it is not looking hopeful for Dejan Stankovic’s men since they sit second from the bottom and remain nine points off from escaping the drop zone. The victory was their first since early January and their first at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this season, which should help provide them with a much-needed boost to help issue a stern test up against an out-of-form Roma.

Roma Form(All Competitions): W-L-W-L-L
Sampdoria Form(All Competitions): L-L-D-L-W
Players to Watch Out
Roma: Chris Smalling
The Englishman has been ever present at the heart of the three-man defence for Roma so far this season and his performances have been solid of late, despite poor displays by his fellow teammates. The hosts will be without defenders Ibanez, Gianluca Mancini and Marash Kumbulla for this one due to suspension and so a strong outing from Smalling will be imperative if Roma is to find victory.
Sampdoria: Manolo Gabbiadini
Gabbiadini has now equalled his best goal output in Serie A for the past two seasons. A brace over Verona last time out means his total is now up to six for the campaign and five of those have come since the turn of the year. Whenever the 31-year-old has scored this season, Sampdoria has got a result and so they may just be in with a chance of doing so if he can get on the scoresheet here.
Match Facts
- During the last 27 meetings with AS Roma playing at home, AS Roma have won 18 times, there have been 4 draws while Sampdoria Genoa have won 5 times. The goal difference is 49-22 in favour of AS Roma.
- Sampdoria Genoa hasn't scored in 6 of their 13 away matches in Serie A this season.
- AS Roma hasn't scored in 3 of their 13 home matches in Serie A this season.
Injury and team news
Incredibly, Mourinho is without four first-team players through suspension for this game, with Roger Ibanez and Bryan Cristante sent off in the defeat to Lazio, Marash Kumbulla and Gianluca Mancini both banned for one game due to separate disciplinary issues.
Sampdoria is also hit by a suspension with Bram Nuytinck serving a one-game ban for the visitors. Sam Lammers and Emil Audero are both edging back to full fitness, but Stankovic could stick with an unchanged starting XI, aside from Nuytinck.

Predicted Lineups
AS Roma predicted lineup(3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Celik, Smalling, Llorente; Zalewski, Matic, Wijnaldum, Spinazzola; Dybala, Pellegrini; Abraham
Sampdoria predicted lienup (3-4-2-1): Turk; Gunter, Murillo, Amione; Zanoli, Winks, Rincon, Augello; Leris, Djuricic; Gabbiadini
Match Prediction
Both sides are hampered by selection issues ahead of the match but it will be interesting to see how Roma copes without most of their central defenders. The Sampdoria attack has been boosted too but their issues at the back also pose problems.
It won’t be as straightforward for Roma as it may seem at first glance, especially with the Blucerchiati heading into the game on the back of a win. However, the Giallorossi are excellent at the Olimpico, if you forget the Sassuolo result, so we are backing an unconvincing win for Roma.
Prediction: AS Roma 1-0 Sampdoria
