23:30 PM: Hello everyone and welcome to Khel Now’s LIVE COVERAGE of the Real Madrid vs Liverpool match in the UEFA Champions League 2022-23. I’m your host Keshava Verma, and I’ll be keeping you company through what promises a fascinating evening of football. Please wait for 30 Seconds for the Live blog to load.

The clash between Real Madrid and Liverpool is always highly anticipated and highly intense. These two European giants have met many times before, and each time they have delivered an enthralling spectacle. This season, both teams have had mixed fortunes domestically. Real Madrid are second in the league but showed their class in the Anfield in the first leg of this tie, while Liverpool are not in the most consistent form.

Real Madrid is one of the most successful football clubs in history, having won the Champions League a record 14 times. They are also the reigning champions, having won the competition in 2018 and 2020 and recently in 2022 by beating Liverpool only by one goal lead. Both teams will be looking to gain the victory, but the tie is far from over after just one game which was rather one sided. With the quality of players on both sides, this promises to be an enthralling encounter and one that fans around the world will be eagerly anticipating. Real Madrid will be looking to go forward with a home victory.

Player To Watch

Real Madrid: Vinicius Jr.

In the previous La Liga season, the Brazilian had recorded a goal total of 30. His greatest ever, not to mention the fact that he was the only one to score in the UCL championship match against Liverpool. In terms of goal scoring this season, Vinicius has been a touch erratic, but even when not at his best, he poses a goal danger. Vinicus Jr. can undoubtedly score a goal against Liverpool thanks to his showy abilities, speed, and accuracy. He was also a key player in the recent league game against Espanyol and scored a goal as well.

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah

In the recent league game, Mohamed Salah decimated Manchester United by himself. He was a major headache for the Red Devils throughout the contest, scoring twice and giving out two assists. Not considering the recent encounter in the Premier League, since the attacker frequently maintains his form over several games, it is safe to assume that he will try to score against Los Blancos as well and have a shot of redemption he always wanted against the reigning champions.

Match Facts

  • Real Madrid has defeated Liverpool in six of their last seven UEFA Champions League encounters after dropping their first three encounters with the Reds.
  • With the exception of their elimination round loss to Ajax, Real Madrid has advanced from 26 of their previous 27 UEFA Champions League playoff matches when winning the first game away from home.
  • Liverpool is one of four English teams to have defeated Real Madrid on the road in a European matchup.

Injury and Team News

The most serious problem for Madrid is that Benzema is facing an Ankle injury and will most probably miss the encounter. Also due to a groin injury, the squad has been without the central defender David Alaba since the 5-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Ferland Mendy, a left back, is also dealing with a muscular issue. As for the Reds, key players like Thiago, Luis Diaz, Joe Gomez, Naby Keita will likely miss out on the trip to the Bernabeu.
