Ratings: Diego Mauricio shines in Odisha FC's win over Hyderabad FC
The Nizams failed to win the crucial game which sees them bow out of the tournament.
Odisha FC manage to finish as the winner of Group B in the 2023 Hero Super Cup after a 2-1 win over Hyderabad FC. Goals from Diego Mauricio and Victor Rodriguez were enough to cancel Javier Siverio’s goal for the Nizams in the first half.
Manolo Marquez’s men had to win the game but failed to capitalise on their chances. Javier Siverio in particular, was disappointing with his finishing, and the side ended the game with 10 men.
Here are the player ratings from the game that ensured the Juggernauts move on to the knockout stage of the Hero Super Cup:
Hyderabad FC
Gurmeet Singh (GK) - 3.0
The custodian was at fault for not coming out to catch the cross in his box which led to the first goal. He could not do much to deny Odisha FC a second goal. In the end, Gurmeet received a direct red card for tackling Mauricio and denying him a goal-scoring chance.
Nikhil Poojary - 5.5
The full-back found it difficult to contain Mauricio when the striker made his usual shift to the right flank. His attacking input was also underwhelming.
Odei Onaindia - 6.5
Odei Onaindia was the calming presence in Hyderabad FC’s defence. He made key clearances to help his team stay in the game.
Chinglensana Singh - 4.5
The defender was nervous with the ball, giving it away on a few occasions. He also got a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Jerry Mawihmingthanga.
Akash Mishra - 6.5
Akash Mishra’s work-rate was impressive and his crosses caused problems for Odisha FC's defence. He kept Jerry silent for most parts of the game.
Joao Victor - 6.0
The skipper was solid in moving the ball from defence to attack and did well to provide cover to the defence. However, Mauricio out-muscled him in the final third which led to the Juggernauts' second goal.
Sahil Tavora - 6.0
The midfielder was decent in his work-rate but looked short of ideas with the ball on his feet.
Mohammed Yasir - 7.0
The winger looked ambitious and took several attempts on goal that put Odisha FC's defence and the goalkeeper under pressure. Unfortunately, he could not find the quality to breach the opposition’s defensive wall.
Abdul Rabeeh - 6.5
The pacey winger was all over Odisha FC’s full-backs but his crossing let the head coach down, who gave him a starting place in the line-up.
Borja Herrera - 6.5
Borja Herrera made some key passes and also provided the assist for Siverio's headed goal.
Javier Siverio - 7.0
Despite scoring another goal for Hyderabad FC, the striker was unhappy with his performance for missing several clear goal-scoring chances. He was visibly frustrated and could not carry the team’s hopes on his shoulders in the absence of Bartholomew Ogbeche.
Substitutions
Halicharan Narzary - 4.5
Came on to help his team find goals but he was unsuccessful in his mission.
Joel Chianese - 5.5
The playmaker did not get enough of the ball as Odisha FC dominated possession towards the end of the game.
Aaren D’Silva - N/A
Rohit Danu - N/A
Odisha FC
Amrinder Singh (GK) - 6.0
Amrinder made a few good saves to keep Odisha FC in contention. His performance in the box was vital to keep Hyderabad FC’s crosses from finding the strikers.
Narender Gahlot - 6.5
The defender was excellent in the right-back position and impressive with his contribution in both attack and defence. His duel with Akash Mishra was entertaining.
Carlos Delgado - 7.0
The leader in defence made sure that Javier Siverio could not find space inside the box and made plenty of clearances to help his team win.
Osama Malik - 6.5
Osama was strong in defence and won several aerial duels to keep Hyderabad FC forwards under pressure. He was also a threat in the opposition box during set-pieces.
Sahil Panwar - 5.5
Sahil Panwar made a mark with his crosses in the attacking third but Abdul Rabeeh's pace gave him a lot of issues on the flank while defending.
Thoiba Singh - 6.5
Thoiba Singh did the hard work of pressing Hyderabad FC midfielders and also put in a good shift as a centre-back later on in the game to keep the opposition attackers at bay.
Princeton Rebello - 4.0
The midfielder was taken off in the first half itself and did not manage to make an impact on the game.
Victor Rodriguez - 8.0
It was one of Victor Rodriguez’s best performances in an Odisha FC shirt. He marshalled the midfield well, moved the ball expertly and scored the second goal for his team that put the result firmly in their favour.
Jerry Mawihmingthanga - 5.5
Jerry's crossing was rather disappointing and his work-rate was not enough to cause Hyderabad FC full-backs any sort of trouble.
Nandhakumar Sekar - 5.5
The winger made plenty of runs down the channels but his shooting was wayward on the night.
Diego Mauricio - 8.0
The striker made a huge difference for Odisha FC once again as he scored the equaliser and then assisted Rodriguez for his side's second goal.
Substitutions
Paul Ramfangzauva - 7.0
Paul’s inclusion gave Odisha FC a lot of control in midfield. Some of his passes were wayward but the overall performance was above average.
Isak Ralte - 7.5
Isak Ralte was sensational as a substitute. He took on Hyderabad FC full-backs and made inward runs and delivered penetrative passes for his teammates.
Aniket Jadhav - 6.0
Aniket Jadhav added more energy from the bench but his crossing could have been better from the flanks.
Denechandra Meitei - 4.5
Denechandra Meitei had a rocky start after entering the pitch, as Rabeeh gave him a lot of problems with his speed. He was lucky to not get booked for a challenge just after coming on.
Saul Crespo - 6.0
The midfielder put in a good shift from the bench to help his team get across the line.
